ten years of early morning stanley park doing walk with the dragon in what must be thirty degrees. it’s never easy getting through one these but this year is different; sifu is not in town to give orders from all directions. nonetheless, being under the sun in blazing heat for five hours drained all the water out of me. the demo went fairly well and we got out of the venue before 1pm. my heel started giving me problems as i was leaving the park. when i got home after lunch, all i couldn do was lie down. there was no point in going to hockey in this state, i was better off taking a nap before dinner time
time to pull out that blue uniform to perform at walk with the dragon like every july. i don’t miss the 8am stanley park mornings, the dragon walk around seawall, or the several hours under either the blazing sun or pouring rain. what’s different about this year is we have more control and freedom as to how we want to structure our demo. the team performed well this year and everything ran as smoothly as it could. i can say this is one of my best demo performances to date, especially executing my triple side breaking better than all the times at rehearsal
after an eight hour shift of teaching was followed by a three hour long demo rehearsal. it’s final rehearsal for tomorrow’s walk with the dragon event. everything had to spotless before we could leave the dojo tonight as we wanted this to be a good show. i am tired but it’s a good kind of tired. it was stuffy inside, but a bubble tea delivery from a student made it a difference. all i want to do is go home, pass out and be up doing all over again in seven hours
after not having done it for exactly a year, i am working on my breaking again. if it all works out, i’ll do it for walk with the dragon demo; if not, i’ll just keep it in my back pocket and hope i have another opportunity to use it. i’ll be disappointed if it’s not ready by then, but i won’t force it and keep working on it knowing i am inching closer than last time. my vertical enables me to do things like this; living proof that my exercises are paying off and that makes me happy
it’s past the mid way mark of september and the weather is looking a lot like autumn season. not everything has gone the way i had planned – in fact, many things have gone awry in the past few months but i can’t complain because all in all, summer of 2015 has treated me well. i spent a fortune to get myself yet another sony flagship phone, had my fair share of summer sweets and indulgence, and more doctor visits and scans were prescribed. there’s always a first for everything including: my first and second ever long hike, took a leap of faith with tumbling and flipping, ample time spent on the beach and in the water having the opportunity to try wakeboarding, wakesurfing and paddleboarding. staying in the game is always important for me as always, with another nationals complete, another walk with the dragon fulfilled, more tennis balls crushed, and of course never escape the physio and injuries aspect of life. my gym quests never stops even though much of the time i feel slowed progress, but slow progress is better than no progress. and even though the physio appointments and kinesiologist lectures never ellude me, there’s a lot of positive improvements in terms of occurences and length of rehab time required to get back into the game. although i did travel to montreal, it wasn’t solely for pleasure but more so for competition purposes. i do wish traveling does happen for me in the fall or winter season. here’s snippets of what went on this summer as proof it happened, that i took a few steps in crossing out some of the things on my bucket list
another annual success walk with the dragon appreciation dinner in the books. typical asian dinners with plates coming every so often, where you will always see food left on the table. and food just keeps coming even though everyone at the table is stuffed. not all the dishes were suitable for me, but perks of being a small eater cause i was pretty much full after the few appetizer dishes. got myself a lucky draw tee that doesn’t fit me, but a win is a win.
i had so much fun yesterday i almost forgot about walk with the dragon that also happened. i was not convinced two hours of rehearsal the morning of will do any good, especially in the blazing heat where i wasn’t the only one who thought we would get a heat stroke. i have to keep an eye out for concussion symptoms after being back hook kicked in the jaw during the demo. perhaps taking this week off any strenuous activities which is also a good opportunity to rest up my banged up body is the right thing to do
