day 2506 – normal lifts

it’s been a while since i could string together complete snatches and clean and jerks that i feel good about. at times i had the pull but not the receiving position, other times i had the jerk but not the clean. today i seemed to have it together better than the past few sessions even though i really lacked the sleep and energy. snatch drills went up to the green plates and pause clean and jerks felt comfortable at fifty kilograms

day 2487 – lights out

wrapped up a long training session that was just shy of four hours. it was a gratifying session where most things i practiced felt pretty good and i broke past some small barriers. started off with some basic front tuck drills and loading my cartwheel. eventually was allowed to take it blue mat and had better take offs and higher landings. my back tucks felt strong leaving the ground and landing higher. my back handspring is at a point where i can do two warm-ups and take it to floor. definitely felt more comfortable connecting my cartwheel back handspring and need not to cover up the edge. the one thing i wasn’t too happy with was my webster because it still feels so broken

day 2426 – handsprings

after two plus months, i was ready to test out my shoulder with some back handsprings. the first ones were ugly, but it got on track after a couple more tries. i’m very surprised that i hadn’t completely lost it after having to put it aside for months. it’s a feel good training today because everything else also found it’s place. my backside 9 felt as good as ever, my websters had a bit of a breakthrough, combos were smoother and both my front handsprings and back handsprings are in working order again. i plan to have many level ups during this quarantine

day 2387 – raiz-ing

in class working on raiz this week and i feel like it’s a move i can have. after class time, i worked on some cartwheel back and i finally leveled up and started from airtrack into blue. i think i crossed the bridge by being able to do it on my own and get around to my feet. my backside 900 is also coming together and feeling much better than weeks ago. i think i’ll try to throw it into a combo next time. it’d be nice to eventually put all four moves together

day 2232 – jerk complex

still a week of getting comfortable with the clean and jerk motion. staying on the light side doing the tech work. the complex is the same as last week with the exception of doubling up on the jerks. i definitely felt better and more stable compared to last session. my body is gradually remembering what it used to do, but one thing i realize from the video is my split stance is on the short side

day 2219 – x-out breaking

with crunch time in mind, i had to work my way through some back tuck troubles before i can think of anything else. after getting the consistency down, x-outs were back in the discussion. had a few good attempts with foam targets and acetate sheets; thought that was good enough progress from training. i wasn’t thinking of going for boards today, but it only happened because of them giving me the extra push. honestly if i hadn’t progressed to to boards either today or tomorrow, i would definitely call off the x-out breaking option

day 2000 – flip flops

it was one of those few flip sessions where my flips felt pretty strong. signs of improvement in my back tuck where i landed some solid ones both spotted and unspotted. cart front off the air track felt pretty good; good enough i even gave front twist a few tries. randomly revisited websters and for the first time, landed on my feet in the red. i think i have what it takes to land them, but i do know it’s a lack of confidence, which was also pointed out. i’m really aiming to hit something in january. there’s a few things on the top of my list: roundoff back tuck, gainer, moon kick, flash kick, and websters are amongst my top

day 1984 – snatch desires

i finally did something that has been on my list for the longest time – get serious with olympic lifting. i acquired the skill three years ago, but slowly drifted away because time was a big restraining factor. i would still do cleans here and there, but never touching snatches since the drop. it only further dampened my hopes of returning to olympic lifting when my shoulder fell apart six months ago. i knew i had to do something if i truly wanted it back. the first step to getting serious was to reach out to a coach who would correct and refine my techniques. today’s first session was very good on working through regaining the fundamentals and correcting any bad habits

day 1926 – open flips

hitting up open practice because i want to get the numbers in before i leave for vacation. it’s late for my early work schedule and i know i’ll be tired, but i felt the need to do so. i’m afraid i’ll lose my front tuck and back tuck during the time that i’m out of town and don’t know where to located a flipping facility. my back tucks have been getting way more consistent. feeling more comfortable doing them on my own on blue mat puts a smile on my face

day 1679 – morning ice

sleep felt more like a nap when i decided to wake up extra early to join my teammates. an abbreviated version of sleep was what it was; upped my already early starts even more so to 5:30am so i can be on the ice. putting in the work for a productive full gear session with valuable take backs. needed a few more dosage of caffeine to get through both the work day and tutor. fatigued by dinner, i had planned for an early night which never happened
