day 1810 – dragon and demo

ten years of early morning stanley park doing walk with the dragon in what must be thirty degrees. it’s never easy getting through one these but this year is different; sifu is not in town to give orders from all directions. nonetheless, being under the sun in blazing heat for five hours drained all the water out of me. the demo went fairly well and we got out of the venue before 1pm. my heel started giving me problems as i was leaving the park. when i got home after lunch, all i couldn do was lie down. there was no point in going to hockey in this state, i was better off taking a nap before dinner time

day 1634 – coachella

wasn’t intending on coaching this one but here i am early saturday morning. nine straight hours of taekwondo isn’t what i called for but at least i got to fit a hockey game in to close off the night. i was mad at myself for missing the net on the one timer off a nice feed. it was a good game overall and what matters is i’m having fun and hand is feeling just fine. i’ve never bounced off a guy to the point where i was knocked momentarily off the ice. this body will be very tired tomorrow after being physically tired for nineteen hours

day 1266 – give back event

the office looked like costco because this is what we’ll use to make five hundred sandwiches for our quarterly give back to community event. it’s strictly voluntarily, but most of the staff volunteered their time to put sandwiches together; some will hand them out to the less fortunate in the downtown eastside area. it’s also a good team bonding event with all hands on deck

day 1233 – wind up

image

doing a lot of rdl graphics work recently have a final wrap up of a successful season 5 but also frantically preparing for the start of season 6. we literally have three weeks to prepare for everything that takes full flight after the holidays; i am sure there’s a ton on the agenda for tomorrow’s exec meeting. it also occurred to me christmas day is exactly ten days away but the better news is my holiday starts in eight days

day 1203 – world juniors

image

the best of the juniors started pouring into burnaby a few days ago and will be here this week for the biggest event in vancouver since olympic 2010. the rink i usually play hockey in is now converted into four hexagonal rings. the accreditation centre and training centre was full of big shots and young stars. never knew i could shake hands with or talk to so many masters in one day

day 747 – successes of an instructor

image

today i received a thank you note from a student i have been teaching and mentoring for the last several years. the note had high praise and reinforces why i have been and still continue to teach to this day. it truly defines why i make the sacrifices to teach because nothing warms my heart than to see my students perform and meet their goals. although she never became a blackbelt, there was a lot that she did right, more than what the black belt itself may have exemplified. i am truly appreciative of all the time and effort she put into assisting junior students and practicing for herself, and wish her the best of luck in her studies

day 657 – my work of art

image

once again proving myself multifaceted with another volunteer gig. the things i volunteer to do for people in my spare time that happens behind the scenes often goes unnoticed, but i don’t mind as long as it is appreciated and respected. sometimes even i am impressed with the amount of things i take on within 24 hours a day. quickly whipped up this poster design and sent it over to the print shop
