day 2214 – three musketeers

the killarney three musketeers made me a proud instructor today. they’ve grown into fine red-black belts. aside from these three, a lot of my students performed well and earned their stripes. they all worked very hard to pass my stage gate before they were allowed to test. first time i was given the pen to hand out promotion test marks. the grandmaster has spoken and basically informed me the date of my test – it’s coming up a lot sooner than i expected. i would’ve appreciated a longer notice. the pressure is on and i’m really starting to worry about my chosen breaking

day 1544 – lord stanley

i’ve seen lord stanley thousands of times being hoisted on television, but never thought i’d see it in person. it’s fulfilling after watching hockey for almost two decades, to finally touch and take a picture with the real stanley cup itself. standing beside it certainly makes me look quite small. i’d love to one day see the other trophies, my favourite being the hart trophy. i am sure my parents would have loved to come see for themselves if they were in town

pressure is on

just days before we hit the road for us world open in portland and i would be lying if i didn’t feel the pressure. experience does help a little, but no matter how many competitions i have competed in, the nervousness and jitters don’t go away. this time there is extra pressure to perform even better because of the competition in my division plus all the kids and parents around. i find myself sitting in front my line of trophies and medals, and hoping that my collection of hardware will continue to get bigger with every passing competition. training time remaining is limited until the big day and i must do everything i can cause my destiny is in my own hands. it’s time to train hard to give myself the best chance possible. now is the time is for me to shine so leave everything in the ring and have no regrets

day 335 – annual canada day special

so much time of june has been put into preparing and coordinating for this taekwondo competition and annual awards on canada day. the long stressful days of rehab, practices, design work and meetings all contributed to my busy and sleep deprived schedule. after countless hours spent preparing the nitty gritty details, the big day has finally arrived. the venue is setup and ready to go as of last night, but not sure if my legs are. hopeful it will run smoothly with as little surprises as possible

day 319 – in addition

suppose this would make up for the past few weeks of low, when i am running out of patience with the complete breakdown of my knee. would feel much better if i could actually perform when receiving this. hope once i can get my leg back in working form that i will be able to live up to expectations and do many more great things

day 81 – surprise surprise

with very short notice on this award, just had to wing the performance today. luckily i did not embarrass myself in front of all my students, parents, instructors and grandmaster and others in attendance of the promotion test. thinking back, at times when i could have and should have worked harder
