day 2372 – work it out

felt lazy today but still dragged my butt to the gym because i needed this last check in to qualify for my january contest. good thing i did because i needed to move around and burn some extra calories. i did two things out of the ordinary. one, i forced myself to do ten minutes of cardio. two, i did not lay my hands on the barbell at all. instead, i followed up with ankle and shoulder rehab exercises like single leg balance, calf raises, bosu ball balance, heiden jumps, rows, cable pulls

day 2332 – cardio sucks

cardio sucks but i’ve committed to doing cardio for twelve straight days for at least one kilometre. i told myself there’s no excuse; even if it’s olympic lifting day or leg day. it’s day one and i forced myself on the treadmill at the end of the workout after squats and jerk balance drills. even with just one kilometre, i was utterly bored and gassed. somehow i’ll have to survive another eleven days

day 1875 – treadmill intervals

spent my off day from flipping for a rare cardio moment because i simply can’t find a way to appreciate it. i don’t think i’ve been on a treadmill for more than five minutes since i last did the sunrun. by the end of it, i was dropping with sweat. my lower body is so taxed from my regular activities i need not to do more leg work even more on my off days. the rest of the time was for core, stretching and rolling

day 1854 – treadmill trek

walking through the woods and running through the city while watching federer play the game he knows best. a rare day in the gym without doing squats or any barbell related exercises. i don’t usually do cardio at the gym aside from warmup, but i had to try out their new treadmills with these cool features. i didn’t do any compound movements, but it was enough to know that my shoulder is still nowhere near normal functions. all i wanted to do was insert myself back into some activities

day 1716 – interval runs

was occupied with meetings after meetings all day and even had to cancel tutor cause i was going overtime. i did, however, make it to the gym and ran until i was dripping sweat. it was a hard run and i definitely pushed it to the max but it’s the last of interval running before sun run day. until then, i’ll be tapering off and doing short ones here and there. then i realized that means no squatting or leg work for the next week either. that got me a little sad. i tell myself i have to temporarily put my weights on hold for a better sun run

day 1696 – treading

img_20200130_2303583260435757429313083.jpgoriginally feeling pretty crummy after a day of work and taekwondo combo, and really didn’t feel like going to do any running. the perfect sign of gym rat when you autonomously drive and end up at the gym. since i was already there i might as well give it my best shot at completing today’s pre-planned workout. as i was running, i was confused why i even wanted to do this in the first place. i felt a weird appreciation for myself for having made it through the duration even when i did not want to. the size of the task wasn’t the focal point, but the fact i took on something that was challenging to me. i left the gym all smiles, but for sure feeling much better than i walked in

day 1670 – morning run

img_20200130_2336147960697309295111128.jpgtreadmill in the morning is something i’d only do for the sunrun. i felt better than a typical day despite running fasted. no surprise i grabbed a smoothie to replenish and on my way to teach. my typical saturday is basically run and gun until dinner time so my ramen with parents is well earned. i’m no marathon runner and i don’t see myself ever transforming into one, but i’ll put up with it for as long as i can. i signed up for this challenge, so i’m going to keep going because what i put in is what i’ll get out of it
