day 1892 – handed to me

my hand and whole left side has really taken a fair share of beating the past year. first the broken thumb, then the torn supraspinatus tendon, plus the bruised and unknown status of my wrist and now smacked my once broken thumb. it’s frustrating as ever to never have proper moving body to work with. i really could use some full body bubble wrap for protection. tomorrow is the one year mark since suffering a devastating broken thumb, a memory i will likely never forget

day 1794 – flasherback

emerging leader meeting got me well on my way to a long weekend; a weekend i’ll actually have. i’m feeling really burnt out lately so this is a timely and much needed string of days off. while i have time to sit down, i flashed back to when i was in the best shape of my life before it all went down the drain all due to a broken thumb. it then became one of the toughest moments of my life because of all that happened and all that couldn’t happen. that’s all behind me because i learn and i grow. i think now i’m ready to train for what got me to the shape i wanted. i have my eyes set on being the fittest, healthiest and strongest i could ever be

day 1734 – triceratops

img_20200130_2143495320299834953971957.jpgso much driving back and forth from vancouver and richmond just because i’m part timing in dinotown. after a play where the ball grazed my thumb the wrong way, it started not feeling right. knowing it’ll never be back to normal, i thought it was at least in a borderline functional state. just as i thought my thumb was back as good as it’ll ever be, i start getting doubts. i had to lay off immediately and make sure it doesn’t get worse. if it doesn’t get better, i’ll have to wear my splint again just to play

day 1611 Рget resourceful

pouring rain, ailing thumb, not perfect vision and no ice permission isn’t going to stop me from going around to achieve. make do with the resources i have on hand is a skill i’m trying to perfect. used nothing fancy but what’s readily available in my garage to make my setup work for me. who said i couldn’t practice when i’m not yet allowed to have the physical physical activities. i’ll always try to look for loopholes; i’m an infamous bad patient and i know it

day 1610 – poke some

img_20200203_1429513128816583509973269.jpgi don’t know how i feel about needles anymore. at a follow up appointment in continuation of treatments of my broken thumb, i was shown the needle that was poked in me. to my amazement, some of the needles used on me were as large as my palm. he did some painful stuff to my thumb which neither felt like stabbing nor poking, but more like scrapping with the needle as if he was going to lit a match

day 1603 Рneedle poking

if it weren’t for meeting some crucial deadlines, i shouldn’t even be at work because i felt so faint with low blood pressure. also didn’t help that i could hardly keep my eyes open during work and no amount of caffeine could make a difference. once i was i’m off, i went to poke needles all over my body to fix some overarching issues. i’ve always been the type of person that is willing to do anything to push injuries quicker so i can be game ready – this case is no different. sleeping problems worsened as a result of rising work stress and possibly holiday stress. it’s not a bad thing to be stepping it up, only need to make sure i don’t faint before i get them done

day 1602 – cleaning up

the day has come for i tried my first in a long time and it brought so much joy to my heart. what a great feeling it was to be able to power clean without any pain in the thumb, though not without some adjustments to protect it. though i must say that’s no indication my thumb is healed and ready for other things. it’s simply bettered to take on some vibrations as opposed to alarming spasms the last time i tried. it’s good to see my technique is still there. as i slowly make my way back to my routine work, i have no doubt my routine play will come back to me soon. it’s been much longer than anticipated, but soon i’ll be able to proudly stand tall for what i went through was nothing most people can compare to

day 1590 – grip and pinch

another vgh rehab visit, first whirlpool therapy, then some wax therapy, then physical therapy. also did a couple functional tests and found out some interesting info. i found out i remain deviations above the standard with most of my strength, that is for anything that doesn’t require that one thumb. hand therapist was obviously trying to tell me be patient when there’s progress, but i really was only interested in knowing one thing. she left me with plenty of homework, all of which is fifty repetitions of things to do with balls and with bands

day 1588 – gymery

img_20200203_144719984664445279447288.jpgthough not cleared for most activities i do, the surgeon has given me the okay to be here. my gear was ready and my bag was packed while i waited for his signal. it’s the first time in over two months i could legitmately be here in my happy place doing the happy things. a stupid setback happened due to my impatience and inability to stay put. i thought i was okay, i wanted to be okay, but only after exerting it did i find out it was still premature
