day 2082 – secret backtuck

it was a gruesome four hour long colour belt test that saw one hundred and fifteen students. my lungs were exhausted after calling out instructions nonstop, but i’m committed to doing a back tuck every time i step in the dojo. i tried to do it while the grandmaster was out of sight lines but because my mental setup isn’t instant, he walked back into the frame in time to see it take place. he reacted in a way i didn’t expect – very surprised and encouraging. i expected warnings from him to avoid high risk moves, but instead he showed interest and excitement in my ability to do acrobatics and even asked to send him the video. i wasn’t happy with that particular flip because i could only muster a tired flip, but the footage is now on his facebook page

day 2060 – floor tucks

i’m beyond stoked that i just landed my first ever back tuck on unsprung floor. with the successful reps i had this week, i was encouraged to try it on taekwondo mats. i stretched and warmed up on four separate occasions but stopped short and almost wanted to back out because i felt pressured when there were too many students and parents around. i waited until the last hour of teaching before i decided it’s now or never. i committed to the tuck with everything i got, and to my amazement, i landed on my feet. i did it a second time because i couldn’t believe it. every part of me was shaking well after, but all i felt was the craziness of succeeding on something i’ve been longing for

day 1991 – killarney rings

another term of killarney started today. like any start of a new term, the first day is always busy tending to new students and registrations. i sit in the empty dojo after everyone filed out and reflected on the day. i’m happy that the enrolment has grown this term; the number of registrants across saturday class is more than any previous terms since my instructor days began. i’m very happy that my taekwondo class has reached more people than ever before and looking to continue growing this sport and business as a whole

day 1948 – aerial

i was really close to landing one on last class but i wronged myself for not giving it a villiant effort and i was super hard on myself after the fact. i didn’t think i’d land one today based on the condition of my body. one after another, the coach pushed me harder and harder to land it. i really couldn’t stand the disappointment again. i had to push through the pain one after the other. it wasn’t the cleanest of aerials, but a first is a first. i went home with my sore body, but happy and grateful he had pushed for it. i would have regrets if disappointed myself again

day 1827 – quick reminder

thank you for dropping this quote off on my desk because it saved me from going down a rabbit hole. i have always been a firm believer that discipline is what got me farther than i would have imagined and this time is no different. coincidentally it’s the turn of a calendar month which is the perfect time to pick myself up and try to turn things around. i’m set on making august a good month and get back to where i need to be – my top form

day 1627 Рkillarney growth

doing some paperwork administrative tasks while reflecting back on my teaching career thus far. since i have taken over as branch chief instructor in 2014, killarney saturday has steadily grown. it used to hover in the eighties and nineties, but that has changed since. one hundred and ten students enrolled across my saturday classes this term is an impressive number. the steady growth in the number of students is a compliment i’ll take. it just goes to show that i’ve poured my heart and soul into giving the best instruction i could possibly provide. i’d say i can say i definitely earned the lead role and. i intend on growing and improving killarney with each term

day 1268 – baby steps

i am so happy i finally made the two plate club for deads. it was a long time coming; i came close six weeks ago but injuries plagued me. all the baby steps i have taken to get back makes this milestone that much more rewarding. it happened all because you once told me you believed i could, so i took your words to heart and worked at it. i’m encouraged because of your encouraging words. just goes to show how powerful words can be and a little positive vibe can get me farther than i thought i could
