mental game

bad habits always gets me. every time i feel like i am in exhaustion, i will stop short of completion and make myself believe enough is enough. i have just come to accept the fact that my mental game is not as strong as it needs to be, and that there’s nothing i can do to improve that aspect. this shortcoming is probably an explanation as to why my game has remained stagnant over the years, where i stop short and fail to take my game to the next level. and this only becomes a cyclical process where when i don’t perform well, i tend to hang my head but not focus on finding the underlying problems and dealing with it head on. just today i was reminded that my body is stronger than i think and when fatigue sets in, the mind is usually the first to give in. so when training in and out of the gym, or anywhere for that matter, it is as much training for my mentality as it is for my physicality. it is good that i get to work alongside some of the most motivational individuals because reality is i need constant reminder that i must stop at nothing until i push out the last rep of the last set. the kind of people that are never satisfied and always challenging me to be better and only then will i come to the realization that i can do things i thought i never could. these individuals keep me honest and lets me know that i ain’t going anywhere until i complete it cause anything below my maximum capability is unacceptable.  i think my recent knee ligament that made me forgo my november competition really caused the damage – in a good way. there’s been a recent spark in me that i want it more than ever before; that i am willing to work hard for what i want to achieve and i am going to tackle my weaknesses head on. i no longer want my game to remain the same. i have some ambitious goals to reach and it certainly wouldn’t reach itself. i am ready to take that next step in further enhancing my game, and i am determined to do whatever it takes. the power is in me and it is up to me to train it to work to live up to my fullest potential. i do believe it is in me

resolution series: [twentytwo] mentor

the people i have been surrounded by have played a tremendous role in shaping me for who i am. they provided me with much guidance, endless advice and mentorship that influenced my growth as a human being. i have had many people guiding and pushing me every step of the way, either dragging me back on track whenever i stray away or making sure i don’t slack off when i shouldn’t be. i know for a fact, without the team behind the scenes attending to me when i fall apart, i probably wouldn’t be walking today. they have constantly given me motivations to train harder and train smarter to get better and get stronger. it is through them i learned that i must put in the work and work for what i want in order to continue playing the sports of my life. the coaches and teammates i’ve had the privilege of playing with and learning from also played a significant role. they have taught me the true meaning of teamwork, that we ought to work hard for each other. lots of credit goes to the instructors that inspired me and showed me to way to higher ground. i have come a long way from the beginning of my taekwondo journey, but i won’t stop knowing there’s still a long way to go to get to a level i never imagined i could be at. i am hoping one day i would be looked up upon, to be mentoring and inspiring others to become what they could never have imagined

 

day 666 – long visit

this is me being super bored when i had nothing better to do while waiting with not much doing at appointment this morning. i knew it was going to busy but had to squeeze it in before physio leaves to check up on my banged up legs and body. today also marks the fourth anniversary of my first foot fracture. never forget what i went through, always remember how hard i worked to stand back up. it’s a good feeling to look back and see how far i have come since being removed from the fracture and on my way for bigger and better things

resolution series: [four] passion

twenties is often said to be prime time. it’s important time to figure out what you love and where your passion is at. if you don’t enjoy what you are doing, probably means it is time to rethink and explore your options. life is too short to dwell on what you must do on a daily basis, makes getting up every morning that much harder. it might be scary to realize you no longer love what you are currently doing, but it is better than realizing that now than in the next decade of your life. it may look like i knew what i wanted and where i was headed all along, but that’s not the case. it started off that way, but things change over time and sometimes the path may not be what you expected it to be. there are things i am certain about but there’s also a few things i have yet to figure out. i have a lot of self doubts and there’s no question i am afraid of failing to achieve what i set out to do, but it’s something i am working on. slowly but surely, i am beginning to find all the pieces to what i consider happiness. i like to travel, i like to eat, i like my gadget, i like the people i am surrounded by, and there’s no better place to live and do all that other than vancouver. i couldn’t be more certain about my passion and love for sports. being active is something i pride upon and definitely cannot live without. so no matter how many times i get injured or break myself, it doesn’t stop me from getting back at it even if everyone doesn’t agree with me. no matter what you do, do it with passion. life is a long journey, so make it worthwhile

sports never stop

it’s obvious where my passion is at and what i will continue to do no matter how many times i get injured. there’s no substitute in life that gives me as much satisfaction and pleasure so i am going to ride it until the very end. just being able to do them is a gift i never take for granted. it’s all about getting up after every fall and know that i will be okay because i have the greatest team behind me to get me back in the game. others can scrutinize and criticize me for putting myself through all that pain, but that doesn’t change the way i go about it. it is part of that fire that burns from within which makes me fight back and want to become stronger and better. where no one out there can question how much this means to me and how badly competitive sports means to me. rest assured that no matter how many times i face adversity, i am determined to come out stronger than ever. i am an athlete afterall and that competitiveness never dies

day 332 – live and learn

important to live life to its fullest to avoid the could haves and should haves. stop at nothing even if it hurts and never give up even if there’s only a glimpse of hope. we are learning each and every day for as long as we live and until the day we die, because that’s the only way to get better and i have no intention to stay where i am forever

day 324 – good to be back

it’s been a long time coming but i am so glad to be back in class after missing action for four weeks. even though i have to take it easy and slowly ease myself back into doing only what my knee will allow, it still means the world to me. not having my sports and activities is a huge chunk of my life that i simply cannot go without. it’s that horrible feeling when the passions of your life is being put on hold
