day 1640 – vdl retreat

still wasn’t packed an hour before midnight, but i am now so baker here i come. had a good look at my cozy cabin and claimed the bunk that i wanted to sleep in. the annual weekend getaway with the many vdl execs i work with throughout the season is always a hit. debated whether i should bring my ski equipment, but figured i’d save that for when i’m back in town. in the meantime, i’ll just savour the moment to chill and lay low while i can. one of the few weekends i can fully remove myself from all kinds of work

day 1487 – mcmenamins

doing the six hour drive down to portland, not for competition, is a first. it seems like forever since i last had two consecutive days off, as i try to leave work behind for the next four days. a four day vacation begins with a stop at pike place market before hitting up the hipster city of portland. of all the times i made the journey south, i’ve never heard or visited the many mcmenamins that are situated all around oregon

day 1052 – bellingham

image

fun times driving south of the border to shop for some closing out deals. many of the shelves were swept clean, but luckily we were still able to find some equipment that we were looking for. this day trip allowed me to back away from recent matters and just let my day naturally roll out. the drive down wasn’t too bad, but we hit friday rush hour traffic on the way back which made me really close to having a road rage outburst

day 975 – portland highways

image

driving south of the border on our way to portland hotel. started our drive so early just to beat out rush hour traffic. the border wait was minimal and the drive was smooth until we hit the affernoon traffic at downtown portland. when i see weaving stacked highways, i always think of portland and los angeles. getting to portland was half the battle, preparing myself for the big day tomorrow is the other half. sleeping earlier tonight would definitely do me good

day 714 – automated locker

image

going south of the border to pick up one of the many packages i ordered. one of the easiest border crossing i ever had, the officer let me by without really much question. what could a little asian girl do down in point roberts anyway?? it’s been a crazy stretch of online shopping and proved that spending online is way too easy. wonder why i am not able to save up at all lately, or ever

day 653 – point roberts

image

rushing off to point roberts to pick my ordered goods but bad timing to go past parallel 49 just when it’s a start to a long weekend. but i am glad i made it to friday, thought it would never come. and when i need something really bad, i make every possible arrangements to get it. good thing it wasn’t a 25 minute delay like the website said it was or else i wouldn’t make it back to richmond in time for class

day 646 – checking in with the team

image

we successfully made it to portland double tree after a full morning and afternoon of driving and a lot of waiting. as i was driving southbound on i5, we saw a car going northbound that was covered in flames. my back is all tired out and stiff from the driving and sitting, but no time to lie down cause we still have to carry out our coaching duties until the end of the competition. tonight is all about getting ready and psyched for the big day tomorrow that starts first thing in the morning
