day 1845 – playoff craze

this is the crazy stretch where all my playoffs happen. woke up for an 8am start to play four softball games before we got knocked out. i hit up 8 rinks straight from the field for a hockey game; my legs were dead when i got to the rink. what a run for espr, making it to the quarter finals is quite an accomplishment. this team keeps improving and we’re only raising the bar for the next season. i feel fortunate to be able to return in time for playoffs after being sidelined for four weeks. i got home from all that activity and fell asleep even when sitting and rolling on the floor

day 1843 – back on field

my shoulder still feel restricted and painful in outstretched positions, but back in my cleats and on the grass field playing softball for the first time in four weeks. i have to protect my shoulder by limiting the amount of movement it can do. realizing that’s quite difficult when i have to snatch all of throws that come my way to first base. i’m not going to lie it hurts when playing, and i’m sure that expected on my first games back

day 1813 – first base lady

off softball for two weeks and my timing is a bit off at both the batter’s box and at first base. i’m either a little early or late getting my bat around, but i’m sure it won’t be long until i make solid contact again. this season i’ve earned the trust of my teammates and proved that i can be the go-to first base woman. playing first base has it’s challenges. not only do i have to contend with the sun, protect myself, avoid the runner but also catch the ball. today was one of those days where i had to contend with the setting sun for the first four innings

day 1772 – six innings

fielded only six innings against wombats before time cap because we struggled to get outs. it was a little windy and fielding more than not didn’t allow me to stay warm and into the game. even at the plate, i didn’t have a good swinging night with two walks and two infield outs. if i recall correctly, wombats are in tier c. we’re still sitting at two wins thus far but we still had fun like we always do. encouraging signs that everyone is still learning and improving as each game goes by

day 1768 – squint softball

mother nature has its way with softball sundays. it was raining during our season opener weekend and no different today for our early morning double header. layering up with baselayers and sweats to stay warm from the rain. double header was followed by an evening hockey game. as if my body wasn’t aching and stiff enough, add a stiff and swollen ankle to the mix after blocking a shot

day 1764 – batters box

i was massively irritated at work today because some coworkers dumped urgent matters on me with no appreciation. to further that, they used their manager’s authority to change my priorities. as stressful as it was, glad that could be balanced out with some softball. played first base for both games in the double header and realized i’ve developed a love for this position. i didn’t swing the bat too well, nor ran the bases too well all due to a sprained ankle, but my glove did the bulk of the work. the one position i have yet to try but would like to is shortstop

day 1513 – bad handĀ

looking back i would say it was a good day, but a costly one. i caught everything that came my way, all except one; the very ball that killed my hand and changed a lot. more than five weeks after, it still affects me greatly and continues to sideline me. i’ve been seeking for someone can help fix it and put it on its recovery road. when will i be able to open a jar of peanut butter pain free

day 1481 – pitch and play

after a full day of round robin, back on the diamond pumped for softball playoffs. no one expected us to last long in the playoffs, but we made a case for ourselves making it deep into the playoffs. playing five games in nine hours one break in between was tiring, but i played some of my best games as the day wore on and so did my teammates. we played our way up to semi finals and potentially could have been finalists. props to everyone who came out to play. win or lose, i’m proud of the team for finishing the season strong after such a fun season. that tan just got a whole lot darker after being on the field all day

day 1480 – riverway round robinĀ

img_20200203_1516538263495543897029900.jpgrounds robin day for softball at the nicely groomed fields of riverway sports complex. going to be camping out in these eight diamonds for the next two days to finish up slopitch summer season. it’s an activity filled saturday full of slopitch, teaching and then hockey. i’m very disappointed that drop in did not happen as i was looking to play a serious game two of playoffs. no one would suspect there’s a mix up of rink bookings after playing at the same time slot since may

day 1456 – dugout view

img_20200203_1516406258442838894034692.jpgplaying softball with this back drop is quite the pleasure. i’m still thinking about the ump’s strike zone that made me strikeout. how can a pitch be called strike when i have to step back to avoid getting hit by the pitch?? playing first base is always fun and it always makes it better after making a few good plays. our opponent may be a tier above, but it turns out they’re a bunch of douchebags with poor sportsmanship
