day 2507 – teaching goofs

back to the gym on a saturday morning ready to do the job i know so well. i left alone for my students for a minute and found these goof balls climbing on the make-belief horse. i am a little bummed out i had to pull out of stick and puck in the evening because of my finger injury. i’m sad, but can’t deny that it was for the better. i’m pretty tired after a full day of teaching so driving out to langley wasn’t quite enticing. i went home after teaching and chilled for the rest of the night

day 2493 – violet drink

though i’m on a bubble tea ban, i felt like it was appropriate to redeem my starbucks birthday drink before it expired. i could’ve gone for the trenta violet refresher, but settled for venti because i didn’t need all the calories. teaching four or five straight hours on saturdays is pretty brutal, but i’m feeling privileged being able to help my students. i’ll have to either prepare something for a quick bite or get used to not eating lunch at all

day 2409 – taegeuk practice

third and last scheduled poomsae for all the bc championship competitors. i must admit these seven hours shifts with the extra training is one of the roughest saturdays. all the competitors have improved a lot since the first training, but i’m still feeling uneasy about a few. this was suppose to be the last session, but i think i’ll need to hold one more for my own peace of mind

day 2381 – glutinous rice balls

after teaching my usual taekwondo shift, i had a bunch of paperwork to take care of and didn’t want to go out. it was family time at home with glutinous rice balls for dessert – a ritual on the fifteenth day after chinese new year. it was so delicious i couldn’t help myself but have a second serving even knowing it’s not the healthiest thing. i hope i had enough expenditure today to balance out the calories

day 2304 – lesson plan

ever so busy getting students ready for tomorrow. i have about two dozen students taking this month’s promotion test. since it’s the last test of the calendar year, i’m cramming a few more who’s well overdue. i think as an instructor, i’m more concerned and nervous than the students who’s taking the test. i worked them all pretty hard today, keeping all after class longer than usual. hopefully their hard work pays off at the test

day 2269 – broken teacher

trying to teach all the classes being on less than one foot combined. my left didn’t work well before and now my right is heavily crippled. capping off the last class of the shift with the poomsae competition team. surprisingly made it through the whole shift without having to demonstrate any kick at full speed or full power. it helps that all classes went smoothly and all except the first class came ready to learn

say 2255 – extra trainings

staying extra late for extra training. only at the end did it occur to me that i didn’t even get a sip of water throughout the entire seven and a half hour shift. some kids are really a handful, but i’ll have to learn to deal with it so my assistants don’t get exposed. glad i got a chance to catch up with two of the originals of wu’s the held the reign with me. had some good talks and nostalgic moments

day 2227 – taekwondo time

killarney just got a lot way more stressful starting this term. i’ll be short my vice instructor because she got pulled back to teaching at main branch but i get no one in return; it’ll be just me, an instructor and assistant instructors. i’ll have to train up another vice instructor from scratch. until then, i’ll have to own everything and be prepared to take on anything that comes my way. that’s including preparations for promotion tests, comeptitions and demonstrations while juggling my staff’s limited availability. it’ll be hard to stay sane throughout this term, but i’ll stay positive and continue to believe in what i can offer

day 2220 – outside masters

keeping up with practice at masters class on one of my infrequent saturday off. i’m even more taped up than usual after getting a scrape across my instep yesterday, but that’s never stopped me from anything in the past. i’m glad i went because i got more pointers on how to refine my back tuck and x-outs. the bonus was getting to try them with shoes and then some x-out attempts on grass, both spotted and unspotted. i wouldn’t say i’m comfortable with it by all means, but the fear is slowly shrinking. it’s a pretty good way to end the month of august

day 2150 – tsujiri cravings

it was a not so productive first grass session for myself. i didn’t feel like i could do anything properly as both my ankles are going haywire. though i wish i could do more and get some good training in, it was a fun grass session nonetheless. i still got to toss frisbees, softballs and footballs around. a bunch of us hit up tsujiri to satisfy our matcha cravings. i love matcha soft serve and i don’t think that’s a secret
