day 2152 – softball sunset

i was afraid i forgot how to play softball after not having played for five consecutive weeks. my first test came early in the game when a pop up came in my direction in the bottom of the first inning. perhaps i was feeling anxious; i swung at the first pitch of my first at bat. after i got the first one out of the way, i settled down and took a few pitches until i saw one i liked. i connected in my next two at bats with two solid base hits and rbi

day 2146 – rusty snatches

second apex workout since returning and i’m still trying really hard to get back to proper snatching. i’ll be the first to admit i’m pretty disappointed in the missed snatches that shouldn’t be missed. when the lifts appear to start out wrong, i give up on it far too early and clearly don’t try hard enough to save them. i was told off for doing so and smartened up after that. at least i made up for the lackluster lifts with some better back squats

day 2139 – back on the grind

i didn’t waste any time in getting back on the olympic lifting grind. not having snatched or cleaned for three weeks has had much effect on me. my workout consisted of both and i found both to be extra challenging. timing is everything for any olympic lift, every little segment of the lift matters in whether it’ll be a hit or miss. finished it off with some back squats. i didn’t do any heavy lifts today, but i anticipate i’ll be fairly sore after this workout

2099 – softball season

i was unable to attend softball opening weekend so espr season kicks off for me with a double header. i got reacquainted at first base which is the position i’ll probably play at most of the season. the swing is a little off after eight month off season. i only managed to get on base three of the six at bats. i took a hard ball to the shin early in the second double header which got me limping. i didn’t need to unroll my high socks during the game because i already saw a big bump forming. when i got home, i checked the damage but made the executive decision i didn’t need to get it examined further

day 1866 – sloppiness

spent time running through some basic kicks and then taeguek 1 all the way to taebaek. i’ve realized too much devotion to instructing as taken away from practicing and bettering my own skills. i can’t remember the last time i did a poomsae or kicks for real. i feel utterly rusty and even disgusted with how sloppy its become. i need to dust of all that rust and keep up with my own practice. as an instructor and a competitor, it would be a disgrace to lose all that proficiency i once trained really hard for. it’s only fair i continue to practice as i expect my students to do the same

day 1836 – twirls

two weeks of no progress drove me crazy and today i finally see marginal improvement from my last physio appointment. deep down i knew the answer was a no go even think about trying to go flipping. i shouldn’t risk screw up the slightest improvementby by forcing premature attempg. still, i felt like practicing my five forties so found some empty space at the gym and went at it. it’s rusty especially not being able to use my arms properly, but practice is practice

day 1689 – bowlers alley

it was a shame i missed the last company bowling event, but i got in on the fun this time. competition started getting serious and there was no shortage of trash talking. i only put up a hundred and eleven points on the board; sad to say i used to be a better bowler reaching the one fifties. in the end it’s all relative to the other teams and i think my team did well overall. hopefully once the scores are tallied, my team would come out as winners. by the end of two hours, my ring finger was aching quite badly
