day 2421 – empty court

tennis is technically a self distancing sport so seemed like a low risk activity to do. the courts were empty on the normally popular van tech courts. it’s been so long since i last hit the courts so there was a lot of rust and not so much rally. my shins forgot how hard the pavement is and immediately felt the soreness hit. this is a sport i could play a lot more of even when all my leagues are down

day 2252 – dodgeball action

the game of dodgeball is definitely more familiar in week two. i was saying that the first week was a total blur and my ball awareness and court vision wasn’t present. even though we played one short, we as a team had better ball control. at least i made one catch, that’s one more catch than last coupled by better throws. it’s a lot more fun when you stay alive and in the play longer than thirty seconds

day 2215 – sidekick break

did a high sidekick breaking just for fun. not bad for someone who hardly stretches and doesn’t put in the time to practice breaking anymore. probably haven’t kicked a board for real since my last test over four years ago. i need to do some last minute cramming for the boards that i’m about to break in a matter of days. i’m pressing for that x-out and hoping it is ready by then. aside from stick-knife and stick-stick self defense, i should probably review and shake off the rust for all the step sparring, self defense and poomsae

day 2026 – open practice

squirtle and fishsticks merge to hold an open practice so both teams can get ready for their respective game twos. also a good time to run through defensive drills to since i’m put on defense next friday. for some odd reason, my shin pad and skate tongue was causing a havoc for my left foot. lots of ice this weekend so i’m glad there’s no powerskating during this long weekend

day 49 – new dodgeball season

image

first week of the season is upon us!! back for more dodgeball with new team but many familiar faces. i am curious to see how rusty my throwing and dodging skills are, how much chemistry i have with new teammates and how sore i will be after laying off for a full year. this gym seems a lot smaller than i remember, but it’s still the same game of dodgeball i ¬†know
