day 1431 – award

brought home another from the annual award presentation. what i get in return for dedicating lots of my energy and sacrificing so much into making sure i maintain a standard for killarney. this branch has steadily grown and i’ve been proudly holding the fort down since 2013. it’s often to hear that i’m one of the strictest, and i would agree. i uphold a standard of my own regardless of what other’s may be, not a daycare or a belt selling school

day 1291 – official rings

being slotted to judge the official blackbelt poomsae ring is what i wanted, but i wasn’t prepared to officiate the blackbelt sparring ring. needing to rotate as centre referee and corner judges in that ring is very nerve wrecking. judging and scoring for hours makes my eyes very tired and shoulders very stiff. it’s a surprise when the president of taekwondo bc came over to chat with me, knows me by my name and said he’s happy to field any questions i may have

day 1172 – referee debut

going to master cup with with the identity of a referee instead of a competitor or coach. first time officiating provincial sparring matches and official blackbelt poomsae divisions; definitely an eye opener. crazy long day with ten straight hours of taekwondo today. i definitely enjoyed judging the official blackbelt as opposed to being centre referee for sparring. i needed tying tie tutorials first thing in the morning as i haven’t worn a tie since hong kong elementary school days

day 1117 – juvenile delinquents

day two of future camp poomsae and referee seminar held by taekwondo canada. i was busy on the floor rolling my leg until these two naughty kids jumped on me and started treating me like a wrestling dummy. i only found out yesterday that i will be taking the national referee exam today, meaning i read through sixty pages of the manual last night. stayed up way too late last night, but getting nationally certified was worth it

day 1066 – annual award

another busy season of taekwondo comes to an end with the passing of canada cup. through this season, i have found much success further developing my own competition game as well as training my students. it hasn’t been easy at all, there has been lots of struggles and self doubts along the way, but i got the job done at the end of the day. here’s to another grand champion trophy to add to my collection. i don’t know how many more competitions i have in me; i am hoping won’t end just yet
