day 1418 – dodgeballers unite

tournament of champions is not just any dodgeball tournament. of course there’s vdl, rdl, cdl, sdl, but it’s super cool to see teams from calgary, edmonton, toronto, victoria, seattle. through the round robin, my team was in the middle of the pack of the open division. we played well in the playoffs and went further than expected. we fell behind two games in two series, only to come back and win it. i made some good catches and snipes but my best came with the clutch kill to avoid a fifth game showdown and push the team into next round

day 1398 – getting sweaty

normally i don’t sweat much, but the way my shirt was drenched sure made it look like i played hard tonight. my ribs are becoming more stable, but still have to play conservatively until chiro gives me the okay to play without limitations. my team played better than what the stat sheet showed; i had a decent night with nine kills and five catches despite trying to play cautiously. hard to believe a thunderstorm is expected to spur tomorrow when the weather was so nice out all of last week

day 1279 – dodgeball night

red pockets up for grab at rdl because we wanted to share the joy of chinese new year. i fell to a low point yesterday, but i rebooted and had a good start to the week. it helps as i’m transitioning into a new program. day one felt a lot better and stronger than what i had on paper. i’m proud that i could withstand whatever came at me and i can’t wait to see how far this program will take me

friday night exec party that had a lot of bubble tea, a fridge full of liquor and enough food to serve a village. it was a rdl bonder and a chance for seasoned execs to get to know the new execs. it’s meant to be a party, but we still had an agenda and basic housekeeping things to go through. we started off watching some playoff footage while eating. then the discussion took most of the night before the gaming and drinking began

dodgeball at pubs

image

photo proof of this season’s unforgettable night at the pubs. i had a blast at rdl’s skittles pubnight and vdl’s pirate pubnight featuring lots of food, games, raffles, puns and not to be forgotten – the booze. it’s always a good time hanging out with other players i wouldn’t normally get a chance to see or play against. it’s also the place where team bonding happens because things can get a little wild

day 1193 – skittles night

img_20200204_2141568564227983001006900.jpgrdl execs hard at work getting ready for project skittles pubnight. rdl is still young and growing, but this is the biggest pubnight yet. yelling over drunk and sober rowdy people all night long isn’t recommended; i got home and realized my throat is dry and scratchy. regardless, it was a fun night just getting together with the league and getting to know people that i have seen but never really met. even won a bottle of barbecue sauce to take home with me. i’m disappointed that the priorities wasn’t there, but sometimes it’s better to find out than to never realize where you stand

day 1174 – dri-fit jerseys

image

love my new silky smooth sour catch kids dri-fit jerseys that came fresh off the press and just in time for photoweek. had no idea sizes of this brand runs so much bigger, it drapes over me like a dress. i had a solid night at both my games – throwing out many and catching was on point at dodgeball, making good plays, winning some battles and having some scoring chances at hockey. my legs are ever so tired. most importantly, i had a ton of fun playing the games plus fooling around

day 1146 – season five

img_20200130_2143495320299834953971957.jpgrichmond dodgeball season five is officially underway. this is the closest rdl game we’ll ever have because it’s played at a vancouver school. rdl has been expanding every season since the first; this season we’re proud to have twenty eight registered teams. my first real dodgeball action after three months of healing my throwing shoulder and elbow, and the rust is so noticeable. sour catch kids as a team has a lot to work on to get our teamwork back in sync

day 1133 – at the roundtable

image

with the rdl execs getting down to business and discussing the nitty gritty over some asian dessert. i am barely a dessert person; taro is my go to when i don’t know what to get. within the three and a half hour meeting, the seven of us put a lot in the table, came to some decisions and made solid ground. we were planning for the seasons beyond, but i would say we’ve hashed out most things and ready for season five

day 995 – therapeutics

image

my morning physio to get my head and neck fixed turns out to be remedial for both my knees as well. lots of damage was done during rdl playoffs because somehow both my knee caps were messed up. no surprise physio was angry with my head injury; i can’t blame him. but it doesn’t change the fact of that what’s done is done, nor does it change the way i would have handled it. i’ll just focus on resting up and hoping for speedy recovery so i can continue to grind
