day 1733 – double double headers

never have i played four games in one day, two double headers on the menu today. first double header is 9am softball in this rainy condition. it was so nice to have a hot shower after being soaked from the rain and mucky gravel fields. by the time i made it to the fourth and final game of the day, my brain has already shut down and my legs no longer want to function. at the end of all the games, hung out with the guys to chow down on wings. i’ll have to reconsider another four game day

day 1700 – gr8 companies

walking from one gr8 company to another under the spitting rain. another case where i’ve taken the reins to manage more rendering requests and act as the direct contact to outsource renderer. slowly but surely taken more and more off my manager’s plate and onto my plate. the start of the year has been good to me, allowing me to manage my own team and managers developing me as part of the emerging leader trainings. being identified as one of the five emerging leaders is flattering. i think i’ve proven to many that i can handle many tasks under pressure and still maintain professionalism

day 1698 – rainy run

my first real long run in three years and quite possibly my first ever run in the rain. nailed the sunrun distance like i set out to do and pleased with the result. my legs were spent from the ten kilometre run, followed by five hour taekwondo shift and then some hockey. i could barely move halfway through the day and expect it to get worse tomorrow. i guess i didn’t exactly think it through before committing to all in one day, but that’s kind of how i roll. in the meantime, there’s lot of rolling to be done

day 1399 – slopitch

the rain was coming down hard in richmond so i thought surely the rain would be even worse in burnaby. the league said games run as schedule and good call for them. the field was mucky, but the weather didn’t turn out too bad. i layered up to anticipate a chilly evening and it was. it was important to stay warm through the game so i had to keep moving in the dugout. i actually ran a lot of bases and had a good line at the plate too. thinking if it will be wise to play tomorrow because my hip is in a great deal of pain

solo series [day ten]

since weather forecast said both osaka and kyoto are affected by rain, we decided it’s not worth the trip out to kyoto and will postpone it for next day. that was my que to sleep in and make up for the lack of sleep. we spent our morning in shinsaibashi, a 600 metre covered street mall, and shopped until lunch time. we were fortunate it didn’t start raining until 5pm and that’s when we made our way back to b&b

for the second straight day, i elected to not go out for dinner. this gives me some personal time and a chance to do a circuit. that’s no replacement for gym sessions, but i will have to make do with it until i get back. all that pigging out and no training is not boding well. i’m worried the time away from gym has set me back many steps

i clearly didn’t learn enough from watching anime. menus with only japanese characters are pretty meaningless to me which makes ordering impossible. the only way for me to remember the names is to translate them into chinese; they all sound so absurd i end up making fun of them

i have yet to have a video chat with mo while i am in japan; it’s very difficult based on time difference. we still exchange messages very frequently. i know that he’s taken this time to reconnect with his close friends

day 1024 – classy tea

image

the muggy weather made me not want to go outside, but i got to make the most out of all the days i had left on my vacation. it turned out to be a pretty productive one. i was able to cross off a few things on my shopping list, met up with my si hing, then had a home cooked meal and classy chinese tea at my cousin’s house. my cousin’s daughter is a clever and energtic one, but a provided a challenge to contain

day 1018 – touring calgary

image

after our run at this year’s nationals, we are wandering the streets of downtown calgary. we saw snow and rain in the first three days in calgary, but glad our fourth day was a warm and sunny one. this trip was been leg intensive as if we didn’t spend enough time walking and standing on our feet at the championship, we decided to do more of that. spark science centre, calgary tower, chinatown, stephens avenue and the core shopping mall were amongst the many places we visited. it was a good trip with teambonding time, but we’re all burnt out. i was ready to head home to see mo, but it won’t be long before i fly off again
