day 1750 – suspending

that time playing on friend’s rings trying calisthenic moves while waiting for our carpool. i still remember we met up at midnight to do a red eye drive down to portland competition. the good old times when i am still active in the competition world, training and coaching at the same time. those days are gone and i no longer have the same competition goals anymore; maybe i finally realize it’s time to let go so my broken body won’t get anymore broken

day 1490 Рmany miles

one thousand two hundred odd kilometres later, i have made another loop around portland. road trips are meant to be fun but don’t realize how tiring it can be until i get home. intake was upped significantly during the vacation days, i must once again put on eating restraints; maybe i don’t mind having eating disorder again. it’s good to be back home sleeping on my own bed even if it feels like a sauna

day 1488 – district hopping

a fully loaded day going through district after district. the walk through sketchy streets of old chinatown, pearl district, downtown area and then classy lloyd district. the streets were surprisingly quiet on a sunday morning but started filling as noon hit. the heat was sweltering in the afternoon as most of the traveling was outdoor and done on foot. we hit up cartlandia to grab some dinner; my food truck curiosity and appetite was satisfied and so was my sushi burrito

day 1312 Рteam competitors

competition day in portland came really quickly. i had low expectations going in because of what happened recently and the luck of poomsae draw didn’t help either. practice was sparse cause of the lack of time and the timing of injuries. i admit at times i didn’t try to make time to practice and even wanted to withdraw so i won’t disappoint anyone. i pulled together a gutsy performance today and took a gold and a satisfying bronze. i’m glad i was there to prove myself

day 1187 – mat privileges

image

what i’ve been stressing out about has finally arrived. stepping on the mat for my first competition this season. after an offseason of training, i feel more conditioned physically and mentally to have a stronger competition season. i felt i had my top game today; fueled myself properly and zoned in the second my pre-game warm up began. i’m happy with my shipjin, the best it’s ever been and came out with a bronze. i had a lot of fun this portland trip but four days running around at the venue is exhausting. it’s time to go home and get a good night’s sleep

day 1186 – bonding time

image

our day off before the rest of the team arrives tonight for part two of competition. no events for the team today but still went to catch some sparring action and ran into cosplay expo. a little last minute preparation and team meeting to end the night so we can sleep early in anticipation that we would have none the next night. it’ll be a long day with a full day of competition and driving back immediately after everyone’s events are over

day 1184 – oregon venue

image

teammates and i arrived at the oregon venue after a red-eye drive. my day and night is all mixed up after being up for so long; first real meal of the day was past 3pm. i had points of starvation and points of food overload, which can’t be good at all. competitors from different countries are checked in including canada, united states, mexico, guatemala and ecuador. we did a little bit of everything today including homework, practice, meeting, eat and grocery shop. tomorrow is the big day for some of my teammates. for the first time in quite a while, i won’t be fighting with them on the same mat, but i’ll be cheering them on from the side
