day 3819 – neck limitations

work was made difficult with immense neck discomfort. it worsened when i was jolted by an uncontrolled kick. luckily physio was present to work on my neck and tape it. we agreed there’s was no point in taping the shoulder since there’s no way i could muster any kind of training for next couple days. i got some relief but it requires more rest than anything and maybe a lot of jamming my hypervolt into the area

day 3442 – first consultation

weeks before flying, i made advance appointments with a specialist i was referred to. went in for my first consultation and it was not like my typical appointments. after getting an understanding of my health history, she started the adjustment with the biggest crack i have ever received. from there, we went through cycles of adjustment then testing, more adjustments and retesting, until the parts feel like it’s in the proper place and moves that way it should. after seeing her, there’s some promise and hope that some of these head problems can be cured and also improve other underlying issues, and the chronic hip and back pain i experience isn’t permanent

day 3291 – desperation meds

the allergic reactions and neck was so agonizing, neither the calamine nor the mobidick was doing any good. all i wanted to do was get some sleep and lie down without excruciating discomfort. i ran out of ideas and took a few of these pills out of desperation. i glanced at the label after downing a few, only to read there’s warning for uncommon stomach bleeding risks. i guess i should be concerned, but i was willing to try anything that would end the discomfort before it ends me

day 3290 – allergic reactions

four of my six mosquito bites from yesterday got an allergic reaction and swelled up my limbs like crazy. i really hope the swelling and burning sensations will die down soon. just to make matters worse, my neck and upper back also seized up so i basically spent my entire day doing not a whole lot except laying down. the combination of all these happenings drag me real low and makes it almost impossible to stay on track for my weight cut goals

day 3242 – gi chokes

i’m still not nearly close to normal, but still better day by day. jiujitsu was the closest active thing i could train that doesn’t really require me to balance, jump or invert. learning chokes with gi is fun, but also isn’t when i have to be a dummy for many rounds. the aftermath of today’s bow and arrow choke beat my neck up pretty bad. it’s starting to get weather so wearing a sweater to cover it may seem kind of strange

day 3122 – neck drop

both olympic lifts have been really consistent past few months and it was all moving in the right direction for some nice personal bests. i really wanted the forty nine snatch. i’m not sure what happened during the lift, but in a split second the barbell hit me in the back of the neck. i’ve never seen my coach this concerned, but i tried to brush it aside and finished part of the workout. in hindsight, i probably shouldn’t have tried for any maxes today after being so sleep deprived and exhausted from the past few days. i’ll try to put this mishap aside, regroup and concentrate on my taekwondo competition for the upcoming week

day 3089 – releases tour

my friend came to visit and i toured him around my studio. we caught up and chatted a bit, but more importantly, had a rehab and stretch session that we both were in dire need for. my neck, back and all the way down to my hips were very stiff, but we got it moving again after some releases and cracks. i’m very glad i could also help him out with my ribs and back pain. going through these chronic injuries has never been easy, but having someone thah can relate has been really helpful so we can get through it together

day 2840 – tatami mat

during the time my brother and sister in law are out in kelowna, i flipped the two crash mats down in the basement and use it as tatami. i use it just to lie down and relax when i’m not doing anything and need to be away from my computer screens. i might even try sleeping on it to see if it’s better for my neck and back. i can’t wait to move these mats to my school once i find that space i can call my own

day 2643 – home stretches

after being treated by chiro, he gave me stretches and releases i should be doing at home for my stiff neck, back and hip. on top of the assigned rolling, i did some self care. one thing i had been meaning to do is get back on the poomsae kicking train. to do so, i need to stretch on my own to regain that full split. i always had some natural flexibility, but i can’t rely on that as i age. i’m going to commit to stretching and work towards that vertical sidekick i was once very close to having. i’ll spend the next two weeks stretching as often as i can and see what progress looks like

day 2496 – chiro check

good thing i secured a chiropractor appointment now that he’s back in operations. looked forward to getting in and easing my body ailments. i had a list of body parts he needed to check and fix, but i knew very well there wasn’t enough time in one appointment slot. he got a chance to look at my shoulder, knee, hip and back. my body was particularly crunchy so everything cracked with ease as he tried to put things back in alignment. all in all, he’s impressed i held up for over two months because i typically see him much more frequently

day 2204 – pause snatch

it feels weird to be ay apex on thursday instead of tuesday, but it’s better to give my back and neck more time. to be honest, both were still so stiff and tender than i didn’t think i could snatch. week one of tech week working on pause snatch and front squat on the minute style. it felt pleasantly strong and worked up to thirty eight kilogram pause snatch complex. it was a busy day – i had three back to back activities today, all half an hour apart. after olympic lifting session, was softball playoffs round robin and massage appointment. needless to say i didn’t get home to eat dinner until 9:46pm, and at that point i had fourteen minutes left to eat before my window closed

day 2165 – pretherapy

a massage appointment that was rescheduled and rescheduled since early june. this was an appointment was originally set to take a look at my stiff neck and shoulders but turns out he has to tend to my hip was well. one thing i need to do a better job of for self care is stretching and rolling. i should consider switching my mattress and pillow because the pain and tension is ongoing

day 806 – caffeinated

image

morning caffeine to start the day gets me through the morning with a little less pain and a little more productivity. also helps ease the headache and neck pain from what feels like a sustained whiplash. i hope it’s nothing severe because there’s a lot to be done in the next little while i cannot afford to miss a day. kind of adds to the insult of my already sore legs and canker sore or tooth issues. i always believed that caffeine, bengay and tape solves most things, which i know a lot of people disagree with me

day 571 – victimized

image

i was the chosen one to partner with someone for their self defense portion of their first and second dan blackbelt test and it was no fun at all. at the end of the night, i have breakfallen, rolled and been thrown over forty times and even sidekicked in the chest. never before have i fallen that many times in a day, i feel like all my internal organs have been rearranged in every possible way. it was a long and tiring day, teaching by the morning and blackbelt test by night. it’s not whether my back and neck will be sore tomorrow, it’s how sore
