day 2658 – certificate and medal

the accidental competition certificate and medal came through my mailbox today. the mailman went ahead and folded my letter sized envelope before shoving it through my mailbox slot. i wasn’t planning on competing in this korean ambassador cup but what’s done is done. this is simply a learning opportunity – i need to practice harder on my poomsae and i don’t know how to use youtube properly. i’ll have to be better at both in the future

day 1852 – chicks champs

both jabba and chicks had a good playoff run in their respective tiers, but it’s safe to say chicks one up’d jabba to take home tier champs. it’s too bad i couldn’t be a part of the playoff run and in the end it is probably best for my injury. i’m very happy for the group of guys and everyone’s contributions. even though i couldn’t be there for the celebration, i also received a hardware. i won’t be playing with this group for fall, but i’m expecting to return next spring season

day 1312 Рteam competitors

competition day in portland came really quickly. i had low expectations going in because of what happened recently and the luck of poomsae draw didn’t help either. practice was sparse cause of the lack of time and the timing of injuries. i admit at times i didn’t try to make time to practice and even wanted to withdraw so i won’t disappoint anyone. i pulled together a gutsy performance today and took a gold and a satisfying bronze. i’m glad i was there to prove myself

day 1187 – mat privileges

what i’ve been stressing out about has finally arrived. stepping on the mat for my first competition this season. after an offseason of training, i feel more conditioned physically and mentally to have a stronger competition season. i felt i had my top game today; fueled myself properly and zoned in the second my pre-game warm up began. i’m happy with my shipjin, the best it’s ever been and came out with a bronze. i had a lot of fun this portland trip but four days running around at the venue is exhausting. it’s time to go home and get a good night’s sleep

day 204 – special moments

image

in midst of the hype at canada open and us open back to back weeks, here’s a throwback to our first experience of national stage at the canadian nationals 2013. a journey filled with hard work, setbacks, injuries, sweat, hate but most importantly the memories, love and team bonding time we shared. an experience so fulfilling we are set on training towards representing the pride of team bc one more time

day 94 – silver is not good enough

image

so much complications and turn of events at this year’s master cup, threw me off completely. i did all that i could under such circumstance with last minute changes that forced me to compete with a different poomsae but no excuse, silver is just not good enough and not eager to add to my collection. the most important lesson i learned today from my grandmaster is i must be ready to perform anything top notch at any point in time
