day 2311 – relax and recover

somedays you just got to take care of yourself even if the sky has fallen. i really felt the need to just get away from the negative thoughts and try to do what will make my body better. i need to heal the rest of my ailing body. nothing right now can really change the way my ankle is, but i’ve been reading up on it and getting new learnings. talking to people with different knowledge and experience has also given me more insight and reassurance to some degree

day 2165 – pretherapy

a massage appointment that was rescheduled and rescheduled since early june. this was an appointment was originally set to take a look at my stiff neck and shoulders but turns out he has to tend to my hip was well. one thing i need to do a better job of for self care is stretching and rolling. i should consider switching my mattress and pillow because the pain and tension is ongoing

day 2116 – minoru park

i took full advantage of a saturday off taekwondo by doing things i wouldn’t otherwise have the time for. i first took a trek out to a spa and had an acupressure massage. on my way home, i stopped at the supermarket to grab some vacation snacks and a quick bite. then, i met up with a few flightclubers for the highly anticipated maiko matcha float and that didn’t disappoint. after that, we camped out at minoru park where i was suppose to study for tomorrow’s pretest and flip or play only during my breaks, but it turns out i didn’t get through a single page in my study guide. instead, we spent a couple hours filming tricks as well as teaching them how to toss a frisbee disc. i’m pretty happy with the footage i got from the back flip and feel like it’s improved a little

day 1663 – full body

getting a run in this morning before my teaching shift and hockey game. it wasn’t a pretty game; was in a really big collision square in the chest that gave my back a hard jolt and that winded me. being me, i didn’t miss a shift, but i’ll need to tend to it after the game. safe to say i punished my legs beyond maximum capacity so trying to all types of remedies i can think of. ending my day with a spa-like set up going through relaxation and full body massage so i can go at it again tomorrow

day 1580 – massage

a stop at the massage therapist after trucking along the many nonstop days and nights. there isn’t really a good time or spare time to release the built up stress from my driven lifestyle. when i look at it again, tasks will forever be never-ending because one task’s end is another task’s beginning. i can’t let myself break down, then i’ll only be less fulfilled. from the looks of the swelling, still makes me worried something has gone awry and think it’s best to make time to get it checked

 

day 1145 – sunday split shift

started like any other sunday morning teaching taekwondo, met up for some skating practice, then did my coaching and training while he went to the gym. we soon reconvened for dinner to enjoy our sashimi and cold ramen before finishing our laid back evening. we make the most out of our split shifts. it was a pleasant day doing things we enjoy doing. my legs and glutes are going to hurt from having so much training in the past days and definitely lacking massage and rolling

day 909 – letup

a rare and validated rest day after a crazy action packed monday. my whole body especially my legs are feeling each rep and every move that i did yesterday. i really did go all out and overboard with dodgeball. as crazy as it sounds, i really did attempt to get my exercise in, but my legs just wouldn’t allow. i am urged to take the day off to stretch and roll instead of overtraining and put myself at risk

day 785 – dodging difficulties

note to self to never have my physio appointment scheduled the day before dodgeball nights. not only were my legs sore, my butt and core were also just as sore which took away all my dodging abilities. maybe too much compensating for my soreness led to pulling my back which nullified all the work done by physio yesterday and put me back at square one. despite all my body problems, i still had a great time seeing all the familiar faces again and meeting new ones of course. it definitely felt weird not being in league ops for the first time in seasons, i think i kind of miss it already

day 661 – tape up

spent a good chunk of my saturday night watching playoff basketball, taping myself, rolling out and massaging my ailing groin. i am all taped up in a lot of places i feel like a mummy on a certain level, but i am feeling pumped and ready for action. tomorrow will be a big day for me, it is finally my turn to take my promotion test for a third stripe. just the grandmaster, all my senior instructors, a couple tens of students watching and my pride on the line, no pressure. now i would appreciate very much it if i am able to fall asleep with this stomachache that was also costing me sleep time the night before

day 633 – acupuncture

this is perfect execution of the phrase using my time wisely and couldn’t have used my time anymore efficiently. i was able to fit in an appointment for some needle poking and massage between morning poomsae training and afternoon teaching. believe me training more days and longer hours takes its toll on my body. this is just one of the many things i need to do to keep my knee and other body parts as happy as it will allow
