day 2062 – roundoff backtuck

precisely my reaction after landing my roundoff backtuck on flightclub floor. it most definitely lifted a lot of poundage off my shoulders. i was really close in february, but ended up jamming my ankle that started all my ankle woes. since then, my roundoff was never the same because my body would subconsciously protect it. that didn’t change the fact that i kept pushing it which really punished my ankles. i’m so happy that i finally landed my first. it was worth the wait because landing a solid one today is much better than a marginal one a month ago. stringing up a strong finish to march landing this and improving the consistency of my standing backtucks

day 2013 – frozen pipes

shadow desperately needed a bath, but the outdoor pipes are frozen. i attempted to do a quick rinse anyway. i found filled a bucket with water, but that clearly didn’t work as planned every time i put water on to the car, it would immediately freeze and turn into ice. i’m afraid i won’t be able to give it a good wash until the weather warms up, which hopefully wouldn’t be too long of a wait

day 1976 – eleiko platform

i’m pleasantly shocked when i walked into city square steve nash to find two new sparking platforms with sets of bumper plates neatly lined up. i only wish brentwood would also replace some of their broken bumper plates. it’s unacceptable to not even have one full set of bumper plates in the whole gym. i stayed pretty patient for five months waiting for my shoulder to heal and now i’m itching to get back into olympic lifting. when not in motion, the ligament doesn’t bother me, but got to be extra careful and not go ham too quickly. i’ve wanted to refine my techniques and this might be the year to do it

day 1758 – cad conversions

it’s quite the feeling holding onto these sets of drawings knowing i’m over sixty percent through. cad conversion is almost a project on its own that i started managing last year. it’s tedious and mundane work but it must be done for the greater good. i’ve utilized much manpower to get to this point – one full time, one part time and two intern students. hoping that my new summer intern can get what’s left done and we can put this project behind us once and for all

day 1753 – korean consulateĀ

if i didn’t give some random reason, my shift would have been way longer than the eight to six i had. the competition was unorganized from the beginning when they failed to setup the ticket table. it was so draining, i mainly had pockys and chocopies for lunch. nonetheless, it went well for most of my students. i’m very pleased with the hard work they put into this competition and making the improvements they did. stepping out onto the mats for the first time is daunting, i know far too well. seeing all my students improve makes itch to get back into competition myself, but somehow i held my ground

day 1682 – anniversary toastĀ

recognizing a special day for the tongs family, namely my parents. i’m so happy to spend the most precious time with my loved ones. a toast to the two special people in my life, i look forward to sharing more moments like this. what was suppose to be a three course meal became a two course meal. i was too full i elected to skip the main course and only had my appetizer and dessert. the lobster burger will have to wait until tomorrow

day 1620 – game ready

first game back in league action after a three month haul of rehabbing and a lot of waiting. it was a painful process that i never want to go through again but i’m glad it’s behind me now. i’ve long for this day to come and i’ll admit i had butterflies leading up to arriving at the rink. stepping on the ice for my first shift was a little strange and that comes with no surprise. the calibration process didn’t take long; i felt much better and adjusted even on my second shift. perhaps getting the adrenaline going and focusing on the game itself got my legs back under me. it feels so awesome to be officially back in game action and no signs of ill-effects coming from my hand. the happiness that’s running through my body well after the game will probably keep me up, but i have a good reason to smile and points to show for
