day 1966 – open doors

img_20200130_2039112661621531648358191.jpgdropping in to a rare visit to open gym because i want to make a big push to regain some moves before christmas break kicks in. i’ve had a rough patch and felt like i’ve lost a lot of what i worked so hard for. tonight i was given some basic instructions and drills to get me started on the moon kick. after i got tired or moon kicks, i threw some gainers into the foam pit. also touched on some front tucks, roundoffs, handstands and back tucks. it was a productive open gym and i’ll look for ways to go to some more

day and night

image

on cypress mountain doing what i ought to be doing in the winter season. this season, i changed it up and took up snowboarding as part of my 2016 to do list. it’s something i really wanted to add to my repertoire long ago, but was delayed due to commitments and parents restrictions. i didn’t learn with the best conditions, in fact, in one of the worst where the snowstorm was so strong it was blowing me uphill. some said that i was crazy for doing so in such conditions, but i wasn’t going to be picky and only saw it was a challenge. if i could pick it up in this condition, any normal condition would be a walk in the park. definitely want to hit the slopes again before vancouver winter season is all said and done

day 921 – tyro

image

no matter at what stage in life in any practice, everyone is still learning or working to master something. learning from a guy who’s really nice in offering to teach me new moves. i had tons of fun trying to learn these new skills and hopefully i wasn’t too disappointing. i thought my coordination was pretty good, but after tonight, i know even more heightened hand eye and full body coordination will make it come easier. it’s not going to come overnight, but i do believe it’s coming

day 896 – kickboxing

image

always wanted to try kickboxing so i gave it a shot. it was fun and pretty much what i expected –  a cardio workout. the class was structured in several phases, but they pride on not stopping at any one of them and surprisingly i didn’t need to. i could really benefit from working up a sweat and use that as distraction from everything that’s been happening lately. i received constant feedback and comments, many of which mentioned i had a good roundhouse kick. why thank you, i guess my roundhouse kick is not too shabby

day 832 – power grid

image

playing some power grid after accomplishing a tough workout is the way to go. it’s a great bonding activity where we chilled a little, chatted a little and played a little. i haven’t played board games in ages so i haven’t heard of any of the games they had to offer but i am willing to learn all. my first crack at playing this game so just learning the games and strategies as we go. it’s funny my arms are so tired that i could barely control my hands to hold my chips and maneuver my pieces

day 780 – back to school

image

took a long break off this summer away from my regular friday night class and now school is back in season, which also means i am back at training. made a quick appearance tonight and got bombarded with new set of step sparring that i must learn. the third dan step sparring completely blew my mind. i think i will need a lot of time to digest and wrap my head around these techniques and theories

day 592 – fooling around

image

fooling around and going out of my way to try new things. feeling like a brave soul and took a heap at attempting some stunts. there’s no surprise i started off with a face plant. i am certain i have bruised and busted my knee from the hard landings, so hopefully i am not hobbling too much when i wake up tomorrow. good thing i have scheduled my appointments strategically so i feel more secured when i try dangerous things like such

day 565 – absurd

image

how in the world can someone walk into the gym with a cane but leave without it after a workout. apparently it’s possible because i witnessed it first hand tonight in the change room and here’s a photo to prove it. bizarre things happen every now and then. the world is full of surprises and might throw you a curveball when you least expect it. i guess the surprises keep us on our toes and makes life interesting

day 474 – lifting

image

strength isn’t about pushing others down so you can stand on top of them, its using your strength to lift others when time arise. if you are incapable of putting them to use for the right reasons, it doesn’t matter how strong you are physically. and so as i am learning to lift, i am also learning to become stronger to lift others in different ways. working my way up from an empty bar getting proper technique down is the main focus and i know once i have the foundation, the plates will come naturally. it hasn’t been long since i started, but found out i am quite addicted to this already and its something i want to progress with
