day 1834 – kukkiwon demo

kukkiwon national team visits vancouver again third year in a row. on one hand i’m stoked to watch their demonstration expecting nothing less of spectacular. on the other hand i’m disappointed i won’t be able to participate in their training because my shoulder is still failing me like no other. it hurts not being able to take on this rare training, but i had to be present to satisfy the requirement of being there for my students. either way, the koreans made it spectacular with their spin kicks, multiple kicks and apple breaking

day 970 – kukkiwon validated

this is an expensive paper that is proof that kukkiwon has another holder of taekwondo third dan status. it’s definitely a distinction i can be proud of because it’s an achievement i can safely say i worked hard for. it certainly wasn’t an ambition i thought i would ever attain in my lifetime when i first began my taekwondo journey. and one that had ample of obstacles along the way, but found a way to┬áknock them down one by one. i waited ever so patiently for this certificate and card to arrive, and it couldn’t have been anymore timely. i needed my kukkiwon card really badly otherwise going to this year’s nationals would be an issue

day 381 – korea showing off

image

this year’s korean cultural festival brought the kukkiwon korean national demo team to perform. witnessed an amazing display of their skills and ever increasing level of difficulty. every move had so much power, accuracy, finesse and grace that it makes everything so ridiculously easy. unparalleled crazy kicks that only they can pull it off, they are korea’s best after all. inspired and hoping to pick up a thing or two from them

day 88 – 1 in 10000

this is quite an interesting stat that’s most worthy of noting. coming across another taekwondo blackbelt is rarer than you would expect. it’s a symbol of the training you put forth and the perserverance of not giving up through all that. not everybody who puts on a uniform will know where they end up. i am humbled to have made it and it’s something i would never take for granted. i certainly started my taekwondo journey not knowing how far i would get and where i would end up, but here i am still going at it and taking the opportunities in my own hands

day 25 – kukkiwon approved

this took a while…but my official world taekwondo federation second dan certificate and id finally arrived fresh from korea. must have been issued through snail mail. nothing to boast about but simply taking a step forward and marking another one of my accomplishment and destination thus far with more to come
