day 2641 – dialed in lifts

the busy week has not allowed me to touch my weights at all, but that may have been a good thing. all my lifts were strong and dialed in today. the technique and timing of my clean and jerks felt good; i had little problem getting fifty-three kilos up, which was my tested personal record. my snatch doubles off the block were solid. the forty two kilos went up smooth and easy, even the coach said so which is a rarity. i’m going to make a bold year end goal for a forty nine kilo snatch and fifty eight kilo clean and jerk

day 2592 – rusty jerks

a pretty good lifting session at apex that started off with quick abbreviated snatches. cleaning and  jerking this morning after not having done so for almost three months. it felt really foreign at first, but after going through the motion a couple times, it started coming back to me. i was suppose to keep it relatively light because coach didn’t want any misses today. i worked my way up from thirty five kilos and felt good all the way to fifty two kilos. i’ll drill this for the next little while and see what my new max will be in a couple weeks

day 2585 – lift redemption

a small redemption from last week’s apex session and a good way to end the month. i struggled with the heavier weights last thursday, failing to snatch the forty three kilos four times. all the lifts felt pretty strong today, maybe the queue i needed was to keep my upper back tight. my coach randomly asked why we haven’t been working on clean and jerks; we couldn’t remember the reason so he decided to add some cleans to the end of the workout. it definitely felt quite unnatural since i haven’t done any for almost three months

day 2492 – lifting duo

i did the best i could and tried not to let last night’s rough session affect my lifts, but can’t say i was too successful at hiding it. apex session was focused on clean and jerks. my lifts weren’t bad, but it took a lot to string together one good clean plus the jerk. i started off slow with the lighter weights but still worked up to a fifty kilogram clean and jerk. it was bench and row day for my second session back at my garage gym. i really wasn’t feeling strong with the shoulder, but surprised myself with a ninety pound bench for three reps. i’m really glad my friend comes to lift with meb he’s probably the reason why i push the weights i do

day 2460 – ghetto lift

we couldn’t sprint on the fields with the rain coming down, so we opted to do our first group lifting session in my ghetto garage gym. i only had fifty seven kilos to work with; i feel bad that it’s not enough for the guys to get what they need. i guess it’s enough for their first day back on lifting. we did some deadlifts, overhead press, rows, curls and even back squats with ghetto human rack. i’m going to be sore from all the curls i’ve missed in last decade or more

day 2450 – shoulder stability

i was off olympic lifting for more than week and i feel i’ve forgotten the tech and timing. private session had me stick with really light weights and concentrate much more on shoulder stability within pain free range. the high volume snatches of triples in power, half and full positions gasses me out real quick. the cleans surprised both coach and i; he let me work up to eighty percent. finished the session off with some heavy back squats and then i was off to my routine sprints. i appreciate just being back on the platform – just me and the barbell

day 2429 – garage equipment

at apex for a private session working on my clean and jerks . the clean feels fine, but that jerk still feels somewhat disconnected, but still worked up to match my heaviest fifty-two kilos. the coach graciously lent me a set of equipment i could practice at home during this covid time. i get a men’s bar, and some lighter weights to practice safely. loading and unloading all that was a workout of its own

day 2390 – donnie yen

family day statutory holiday started with a strong session at apex, coupled with a family lunch and drama time, and finished with a laid back enter the fat dragon movie starring donny yen. no misses on my clean wave and topped out at fifty nine kilos, which is only two kilos shy of my personal best. i got a taste of what seventy five kilo front rack feels like from jerk dips. though it sounds like a big jump, i handled it well and think i could go up next time i do the same workout. seventh week without snatches; i do worry i won’t remember how to snatch when my shoulder is ready to return

day 2384 – clean waves

building on last week’s workout by adding two kilos to all my cleans in the wave. pleased that i made all my lifts and majority of them felt good. heaviest clean of the day was fifty seven kilos, which matches the heaviest i’ve attempted at apex but failed to make a year ago. i dread the panda pull for it’s an extraordinary drill i still don’t understand. last part of the workout was heavy jerk dips at seventy kilos. i don’t think i’ve ever felt much weight on my front rack, but i didn’t die

day 2328 – lifting norms

the first week i can weightlift freely more like a normal person would. i don’t feel bounded by the many external factors; not doing modified snatches not banned from cleans, not using straps and not wearing a splint. i also didn’t have a weight cap because coach allowed me to go as heavy as i feel comfortable. my body was ready and surprised me with strong lifts. i ended the session with a forty two kilo snatch and forty nine kilo clean and jerk. these numbers are very close to my max pre-injury. definitely the highs i haven’t felt for the past three months
