day 2521 – term one

post covid term one classes come to an end this weekend. it’s been really fun teaching these students in a smaller group setting. i prefer these over the large ones killarney has been accustomed to. through the past six weeks, i’ve gotten to know these kids on a more personal level, and a few of them have revealed more of their inner self. i’m looking forward to further connecting with them in the next terms to come

day 2389 – preschool graduates

five years ago, these two four year olds graduated from the preschool program and joined me in my children’s class. it was a steep learning curve for both of them to adapt to the regular program with much bigger kids. i’m so proud of these two for not giving up when it got hard. it can be nerve-wracking standing on competition mat alone, especially only being four feet tall. their hard work and perseverance got them their red belt today. they’ve accomplished a lot only at nine years old; i can’t wait to see them achieve more

day 2334 – little human

this little human came into work with her mom today but didn’t want to be with her. instead, she spent much of her time at my desk. she kept my busy by asking me to keep her busy. she wasn’t into drawing or colouring, so i gave her a bunch of fun homework. she wanted to take a selfie with me on her mini camera, but ended up cutting off half my forehead and half her face. i’m glad she had fun day at office, and as much as i didn’t want to come to work when nobody else was working, she made my day by go a lot faster

day 2319 – woojin workshop

my killarney kids had a private session taught by woojin and his teammates. he went through a bunch of drills for basic kicks. it was a good to get an idea how koreans train their basics and a good indication of why their basics are so good. my kids could also benefit with more of this training if they want to improve in high performance. honestly i get anxiety because i really wish i could start practicing my spinning kicks again, but i also get anxiety because i’m not sure if my ankle will be ready for all that

day 2179 – killarney demo team

after long debate, this is the group i brought to walk with the dragon to represent the branch. it is also the first year that killarney students will have their own program separate from the main school. i opted to not wear my uniform to avoid the need to appear on stage. luckily for us, our grandmaster was out of town so we can run this show with a little less stress. it was more of an eye-opener for most as it’s their first time stepping on stage to do any taekwondo demonstration. proud of these kids for having the courage to do so and completing it

day 1939 – mr. brown

had a day with my parents before heading to grandma’s place for a homecooked dinner. we spent the day shopping at apm and in the area of guan tong. i didn’t but anything in particular, except a matcha ice cream waffle cone from tsujiri. i tell myself it’s okay to indulgence a little, as long as i keep up with the walking and workout. i did, however, meet gigantic mr brown and couldn’t resist the urge to climb on him as per usual. i started a lineup of kids also wanting to sit on gigantic mr brown

day 1879 – teaching shifts

two teaching shifts after lots of jamming isn’t ideal. not the best day of teaching at taekwondo having to deal with a number of difficult students. the first hour had a handful of uncooperative students while managing a class of thirty two very beginner class. one kid wouldn’t follow instructions, one wouldn’t stop complaining, and one wouldn’t move and kept crying. i couldn’t attend to at the same time, but i did the best i could out of the gongshow situation. survived the day on two peanut butter toasts and a sore throat

day 1284 – fun classes

it’s time to go home after seeing over a hundred kids during my seven hours of teaching today. at the end of the day i can’t say i’m fresh but i also had enjoyment. i enjoyed teaching today and i’m sure the kids had fun too since it was less about promotion test syllabus. mixing it up and having inserting some teamwork drills so the students can have some bonding and fun
