day 2171 – late comer

i arrived extremely late for civil war and it was almost like a gear up speed test to get onto the ice in time for the second shift. i was close to not going to hockey at all because i had been tied up with taekwondo and tired from an extra long shift of teaching. somehow, i got convinced and pressured to show up; better late than never. i had to book it home after our ice time because i’m expecting to wake up at 6am tomorrow

day 2157 – civil appearance

after three weeks on vacation, and two weeks of bailing due to unforeseen circumstances, i’m making my appearance back at civil war. i was worried i wouldn’t remember how to gear up or how to skate. to be honest, my legs were gassed halfway through the ice time. living proof that there are some things you don’t forget once you learn, but there are things that will feel slow and be out of shape after a while. it’s a good feeling to be back on the ice, i’m sure my legs will have some affect tomorrow

day 2081 – triad jerseys

my linemates looking sharp in our new triad jersey and posing with them after game before the zamboni rushed us off the ice. i wasn’t so keen on having the light jerseys for civil war again, but they turned out nicer than the other team’s. my line didn’t score tonight and it’s my fault because i was robbed point blank. i really wasn’t having my night and had an earful after the game. i was told to play harder instead of playing down to my opponents’ level

day 2061 – goaltending

one of the things i’ve always wanted to try growing up was to play goalie on ice. i got that chance today during squirtle open ice. playing in net was fun, but i didn’t enjoy putting on twenty extra pounds of gear. i imagine i’d be a hasek type goalie who sprawls into full out stretches, but a bad groin didn’t allow me to go down into butterfly all that much. i had a really good catching side that carried over from softball, but the blocker side was rather uncoordinated. i was drenched in sweat by the time our session ended

day 2056 – goalie gear

inherited three more pieces of equipment to add to my sports collection. i’m two steps closer to having a full set of gear to play in net. i’m excited to try goal this weekend, but before i can do that, there’s so cleaning that needs to be done. the second-hand trapper and blocker stank so much, my mom smelled it the instant i brought it into the house. i soaked it in detergent soap in desperation but my guess is even that’s not enough to get rid of any of the odor

day 2048 – squirtle champs

huskies and squirtle go head to head again for the second time in three days. the grand final was neck and neck down to the wire until we sneaked out the win with an overtime goal. i played in the back end again and made some bold gambles which sacrifice my body with sprawling plays at the blue line and diving in the last minute of regulation. a few times i tried to jump into offense and even had a few shots on goal. i’m so happy to have been a part of the team building on the friendship. this season and our championship win was truly a team effort

day 2046 – squirtle final

i shouldn’t be playing with two messed up ankles, but here i am trying to put on my skates. we fought our way through back into the finals so there’s little stopping me from suiting up. we played a sound defensive game throughout before breaking the game open in the second half of the game and won 4-1. we’re taking huskies to the grand finals so we’ll get to duke it out on again on sunday
