solo series [day seven]

i spoke too soon. another sub par sleeping night due to irritating mosquito bites. but that’s totally fine because mo was at the gym chatting with me between his sets. day seven without the gym and i’m feeling slightly depressed, i know it will only get worse in the upcoming days.

my grandma was very excited to have lunch with my parents and i; she seemed especially energetic today. she knows that this will be the last meal together until the next time we visit. it wasn’t a fancy meal, but it was an important one

seeing si hing again, this time we covered the causeway bay and tsim sha tsui territory. we walked through almost every adidas and nike store in the area, talking about shoes. he needed food before his shift, so we sat down discussing taekwondo as he ate. time went by so fast and i didn’t want to part, but we must say goodbye for now until we meet again. i refuse to say farewell

my last dinner in hong kong was no doubt spent at home with my other grandma. i consider this one of the best meal on this trip so far. it’s a plain homecooked meal with no fancy dishes; simply because i missed eating tofu and veggies

the number of mosquito keeps piling on – the count is at eleven. not only is it growing in number, it’s also growing in size and irritation. at last i couldn’t stand if anymore and went out to get some ointment. i hope this works wonders and gets me out of the itching misery

day 1027 – born ready

going to my grandma’s and spending some time with her on my last day in hong kong. my uncle showed several videos of the young me where i was swimming, jumping and lifting things that’s much too big for me. it was hilarious to see myself running around in two pigtails and sailormoon clothes. it’s a good reminder of the things i did growing up that made me who i am today; it’s proof that i was born an athlete

solo series [day six]

i got a full eight hours of sleep last night, best i’ve slept since arriving. that works in my favour because i am well rested for my hike today. met up with my friend and two of her friends to do my first ever hong kong hike at tai mo shan that began in tsuen wan west. transiting to the base took over an hour and the hike took a total of three and a half hours. the trail wasn’t extremely difficult but it had dangerous sections. it was pretty good experience minus all the bites despite spraying on a lot of bug repellent. i am all tired out from the long hike, one ankle is swollen, as i expected

another highlight of the day, and another must-do thing on my list, was having taste tested the special mcdonalds pulled pork burger and successfully finishing it myself. it tasted good but i felt like a fatty with it inside my stomach

tomorrow will be my final full day in hong kong. i have set aside the morning to see my fanling grandma once more before i leave. i should also double check to see if i have completed the hong kong portion of shopping list

day 1025 – waffles waffles

image

a fellow hamberite showed me hong kong life through waffles. we were very ambitious when we decided to hit up mongkok area on a saturday afternoon. we shared a savoury waffle for lunch and then later shared a bubble waffle for afternoon snack. so much eating and no exercise isn’t making my body very happy. to be fair, there’s a lot of walking around involved, but it’s just not the same

solo series [day one]

i am excited to be heading home to hong kong to see my relatives and visiting japan for the first time. it’s a long overdue trip as it’s been three years since i last visited hong kong and my extended family. my parents decided to keep my appearance a top secret. i’m curious to see how my relatives react upon my arrival. now that nationals is over, i will definitely cut back on competition training and turn my attention to other trainings. but before i dive back into training, i need some time off because it’s been a while since i last had a real vacation. i’ll also take this opportunity to recuperate from the recent stresses of life. only then will i come back recharged and ready to make some tough decisions and big changes

for the next twelve days that mo and i will be apart on different continents, i will writing my “solo series” to keep everyone back home in the loop with what’s happening in and around my life. stay tuned and be ready for my journal of adventures
