day 2190 – pr clean

since i’m expecting deloading week to come soon, i just went for it. this would be the heaviest clean i’ve ever done and i’m truly proud of it. in the past i’ve only hovered around one hundred fifteen, rarely get into the twenties because i struggled to get out of the bottom position. my front squat have improved so much since joining apex that this weight was easily handled. i have had my eyes set on the one plate ever since i started getting the hang of olympic cleans, but who knows, maybe one day i can even make the reds

day 2105 – one rep max

for the past several weeks, my workouts at apex have been strategically programmed to make strength gains. i’m excited that it is finally time to test out my one rep max. my snatches felt strong leading up the heaviest i’ve ever lifted over my head. though i had a rocky bottom catching position, i managed to save it and hit a pr in both snatches and front squats. it took more than one attempt, but i walked away with a forty two kilo snatch and one hundred and fifty pound front squat. i’m extremely happy with the results as that’s a five kilo increase in my snatch. coach told me the yellow plates are within reach, something i’ve always thought i’d never be able to attain

day 2059 – line tucks

though my roundoff has been feeling terrible with my ankles having direct correlation, my back tucks have been getting better and better. this is largely a result of being pushed and challenged to hit a certain number or bust one out when called upon. as a result of the repetition, i’m way more comfortable and confident doing them on the floor without a spot, anywhere in the gym. i’ll definitely keep up with doing them because every opportunity is a chance to better them and fine tune them

day 2016 – spotted progress

a really happy moment tonight when i went for it and did a some spotted roundoff backtuck from the floor to blue. since my roundoff snap down was feeling pretty strong during overtime practice, i asked to go for it. i then went on to do one last one, unspotted. i didn’t land it, but i was told it was the biggest step because i just diminished a lot of the fear and uncertainty that it came with. i’ll be the first to say it was scary, but unlike all the previous times i tried something for the first time, i didn’t allow myself to overthink and just went hard. just good to see another progression towards what i’ve always wanted

day 2004 – roundoff game

a few weeks ago, my roundoff didn’t look remotely like a roundoff. i made up my mind that i wanted to change that so i worked on it every class, it’s really come a long way since. deep down, i ultimately wanted the roundoff backtuck but i didn’t want to press for it and waited for my coaches to have confidence in me first cause clearly i didn’t. it was offered today and i’m very happy i chose to go for the roundoff backtuck at the end of today’s session. i went home really feeling really satisfied knowing that i’ve taken a big step towards attaining what i’ve always wanted

day 1482 – playoff pump

was super pumped for my playoff game and ready to play hard as i took my freshly retaped stick and sharpened skates to the rink. i played the strongest game i possibly could and had the firepower from the very beginning with a goal and an assist to show for. i skated on the top line, earned myself powerplay time and also awarded player of the game. even though the loss tonight ended the chick’s season, there’s still tons to take away from this season. i have taken great strides this past season and it’s really an accomplishment when the guys in the locker room nominated me as most improved player. better yet, even guys i play against are acknowledging my the progress i’ve shown

day 1475 – rehab’d out

checking out of rehab is a rewarding feeling as today marks the last of the program. i started off being very frustrated since recovery was slow and my body was reacting to movements much differently after the accident; the more agitated i got, the harder the exercise felt. over the many rehab sessions with kinesiologist, we went through a lot dynamic stretches and compound exercises to regain what i once had. been worked mighty hard where both both in strength and knowledge happened. it’s one of the most satisfying when i noticed increased jump in my game and along the way i built and broke plateaus
