day 2292 – gutsy testing

img_20200124_1549582392730685212064989.jpghonest to god i was super scared when i made the call to test my stupid foot, but also super excited to be on the platform. my workout got amended to only what my body can manage now. the first part was mainly accessory exercise for back and traps. i did get to work on some light snatch variations later on. i wouldn’t say it didn’t hurt because it did a bit. it’s humbling that after two weeks of bed rest and inactivity, i’ve lost a lot of strength. i’m hoping the muscle memory is there and will come back to me quick. either way, i’m just happy to be back doing some form of olympic lifting

day 2286 – baby steps

stepped foot into the gym or any sports facility for the first time since the freak incident last monday. i may seem crazy to many, but as long as i can limp, i wanted to do this. i didn’t do any lower body exercises, and everything i did was done seated or off the foot. i also didn’t use any barbell or any weights that i’m used to. i do see and feel progress but it’s slower than i’d like. i limped in with no expectation and left happy because it felt so good just to be back in any kind of action

day 2278 – back handspring

i’m very happy to have ended my dry spell by landing my back handspring on floor after class. this is a move i wanted a while back but was told to hold off until my back tuck was consistent. drilling it the past weeks while staying patient with my bounding moves has really paid off. although it’s been feeling good the past week and getting spotted floor attempts, i couldn’t get myself to floor it by myself. good thing i was pushed to just do it today and landed a decent one on my first attempt. aside from my back handspring, i’ve been feeling pretty good with a few other moves

day 2258 – mom’s cake day

my regular tuesday olympic lift day went well, maybe because it being my mom’s birthday gave me the extra boost. i made all my lifts today which rarely happens. it’s odd to say my snatches felt very controlled when i have one sore elbow from all the falls. after some heavy lifting, enjoyed a family dinner at home and mango mousse birthday cake for dessert. another year passes by, another birthday celebration, but always celebrating with those who give me unconditional love. growing older each year makes me realize what i should cherish more

day 2247 – kip up

i was forced to re-train aerials because my ankle was feeling wonky after a landing. big surprise came as my long lost aerial, that wasn’t even close to landing for weeks, felt super solid on blue mat today. the bonus of the session came at the end when thought i’d get a few reps of kip ups in to close the night. somehow it just started to click today; i fluked the first one and fluked another half a dozen. i’m reminded that sometimes reward comes simply from being stubborn and persistent about training and getting reps in. i’m hoping that’s the case for some of the other moves i’m chasing

day 2237 – clean reached

when i first started learning to olympic lift with jae three years ago, i wished to one day full clean one plate. i never got close before took a break and only restarted with apex the start of this year. through these eight months, there’s been steady progress in both snatches and cleans while solidifying my squat strength. what i thought was a lost goal was made true today and i couldn’t be more happy to share it with my coaches who helped me along the way. this is obviously just a milestone with much more to come

day 2230 – squatting game

i laid off my clean and squat workout regime ever since i had to prepare for my test, so i thought i’d take whatever i could muster. i started with cleans but it didn’t feel strong with my sore hip flexors felt sore, i decided to cut it short and be spontaneous with the weights. i did back squats for doubles all the way up to one forty five – where i thought i’d stop. spontaneous and curious, i kept going for singles and increased it by 2.5 pounds as i felt okay. had there been a spotter, i would’ve gone for a second rep
