day 2307 – finger splint

a splint on my finger is so suffocating and inconvenient. i hate how it’s so restrictive it is and how it prevents the swelling and bruising to dissipate. i get that i need to protect it when i’m out and around people, but whenever i’m by myself, i would try to remove it to let it air out. i know this is only week one, but hopefully i can get rid of this splint sooner than three weeks

day 2305 – fourth dan cert

retrieved my fourth dan certificate from the grandmaster during the colour belt test. when i first took on taekwondo, i never thought i would have such a long journey, never thought it would develop into a career. it was a long and hectic test, but everything went well up to and until i got kicked in the hand holding a board. it was a blur after that because i couldn’t stop thinking about how badly my hand was injured. i tried to finish running the rest of the test grasping one ice pack in hand

day 1734 – triceratops

img_20200130_2143495320299834953971957.jpgso much driving back and forth from vancouver and richmond just because i’m part timing in dinotown. after a play where the ball grazed my thumb the wrong way, it started not feeling right. knowing it’ll never be back to normal, i thought it was at least in a borderline functional state. just as i thought my thumb was back as good as it’ll ever be, i start getting doubts. i had to lay off immediately and make sure it doesn’t get worse. if it doesn’t get better, i’ll have to wear my splint again just to play

day 1560 – scaled

on my desk sits a scaled model that my dear coworkers said made them think of me. got a good laugh when coworker gave my model an upgraded splint, one that is tailored to document my hand healing progress. little things and acts of surprises like this makes my day go by smoother. there’ll be some that stick by to help during times of hardship; there’ll be those that won’t. that’s when i learn what kind of person they are what who truly cares

day 1443 – blistered pinkies

img_20200123_1140582055971298979046687.jpgit didn’t feel this bad when i went to bed, but certainly erupted overnight. it never occurred to me tying copious amount of skate laces would result in blistered pinkies. really tempted to pop the two blisters on both my hands. i hope the water bubble goes away soon because it’s presence is felt when writing and typing. i still remember two years ago on this day i bruised my eye from a back flip attempt. how time has flown by and i’ve been missing the flipping more and more and thought about going back

day 235 – battle marks

image

it was fun in its entirety but the aftermath of tag team sparring looked a little nasty. took a kick in the hand without wearing any gloves and resulted in a bruised hand and numerous undisclosed battle marks on other parts of my body. bruising isn’t my main concern, i’d definitely do it again next week
