day 1634 – coachella 

wasn’t intending on coaching this one but here i am early saturday morning. nine straight hours of taekwondo isn’t what i called for but at least i got to fit a hockey game in to close off the night. i was mad at myself for missing the net on the one timer off a nice feed. it was a good game overall and what matters is i’m having fun and hand is feeling just fine. i’ve never bounced off a guy to the point where i was knocked momentarily off the ice. this body will be very tired tomorrow after being physically tired for nineteen hours

day 1628 – stick check 

got my sticks newly cut and taped for my real return to fishsticks since october. it’s been quite the wait, painful to say the least, but that’s what makes every shift that much more precious. though we had a really short bench, we skated hard until the end and got a few back. i felt good out there knowing i didn’t forget how to play or skate. i had fun on the ice and that’s all i asked for, the point was a bonus. the point race puts a little friendly fire so to push us to work harder to earn the bet

day 1189 – benching

you know i’m happy when none of the equipment in this facility is off limits for me anymore. best of all, i’m doing the things i know i’m capable – lifting, dropping, pushing, pulling and throwing objects without feeling any abnormal pain. i’ve missed this feeling for the past two months; it’s time to get it all back now. the wait and road to recovery was definitely a hard lesson learned. it’s a good start to the month of november

day 1168 – nailed it

i felt good when i tested my back two days ago, so i’m going for more. i said i wanted to be back in the one plate club so i went and got it – without extra pain. i had to scale my activities and exercises down considerably for two months and was shut down from almost everything for the past three weeks, but i think i finally see the light again. i’m stoked to get back into the thick of things, but i’ll still take it step by step. also very pleased that my midterm was extremely well done, although there’s one mark i shouldn’t have lost

day 1162 – obwf

i kept my word to be out of both dodgeball and hockey action for a full week and now i am back. it’s season 22 photoweek; the team is slightly different this season, playing under the name obwf than our normal obyf. still being cautious and still testing out that back, but happy to report my back felt okay at the gym and at dodgeball. definitely a big step in the right direction, but always need a reminder to ease myself back in

day 1033 – home sweet home

words cannot describe how relieved i am to be back in vancity. not long after landing from my flight, i was met with a big surprise. aside from a couple hours of taekwondo duties, we spent the entire day together eating, strolling, working out and chilling like we normally do. i am lucky to have such a thoughtful man that stands beside me no matter how many miles we are apart. the tough stretch of being in different time zones is over. i am so done of traveling and plane rides for a while. we shouldn’t be separated for quite some time

day 822 – back in motion

really my first time back in the gym after knee failing and having a brief scare with my ligament diagnosis two weeks ago; and that for me, is beyond a long break. i was a little worried i wouldn’t be capable of anything near my best but most of my motions felt alright. it felt really good just to be back cause i missed it dearly – i just missed moving, period. definitely pushed it pretty hard today and expect to be pretty sore tomorrow but that’s a price i will pay
