day 2530 – regular squats

steady progress of my injured knee continues in my garage. i’m excited to be off the box squats and onto regular squats. taking the advice and making adjustments to my stance the past few sessions to make it more sustainable to taking on heavier weights in the long run. the knee itself felt pretty good, but the groin was a different issue. good enough to do four sets with a plate on the bar. had a special guest join us for today’s session; i must say he was quite the entertainment. he did however make it difficult, so some of the workout got cut short

day 2526 – box spots

using my plyometric boxes as box squat spotters once again while i’m still in the recovery phase. the box squats felt better than last time so i added an extra thirty pounds compared to last week. i’m hopeful that i can resume regular squats soon but i also understand i won’t push it too hard too quickly. there’s still a lot of squatting ahead of me so what’s another two weeks of recovery. i’ll take the progress i’m given

day 2520 – farmer’s tan

fridays has all my weakest lifts simply because it’s all upper body. the usual consists of bench press, curls, skullcrushers and delt raise. bench press has been making headway in the recent weeks. i’m consistently using the green plates as my working set and hit the century mark with a spotter. i’m glad my workout partner pushed me to do weights i wouldn’t have otherwise tried. the last set of bench press was a killer drop set to finish off my arms. just as i’m about to curl, my friend joked around and i’m reminded of my horrible farmer’s tan

day 2518 – box squats

i knew going in, that today’s lift was going to be difficult no matter what i do. i couldn’t do conventional squats without a proper working knee so modified it to box squats. box squatting an empty would be a win. it felt comfortable after a couple of warm up sets so started adding a few weights which soon became the green plates. pretty happy that the knee is progressing to the point where i could load some weight and bend as low as parallel

day 2516 – zoom meeting

i was just happy to be back training and almost forgot about my taekwondo zoom meeting in the evening. deadlifts in the morning garage session felt heavy, but one eighty five still felt minimally manageable. my knee is still in a great discomfort so being able to do any movement is already a win. i wonder if there’s still hope of making my two plate one rep max goal next week to salvage a completely disappointing june. i had to be very cautious with how my body felt at tricking, but being able to do any made me feel better and i have no regrets

day 2513 – national sushi day

the letdown was real when i had to skip my apex session and tricking class because my knee is in terribly rough shape. the only salvaging factor was my friends coming over for a garage lifting session. wasn’t expecting to do a whole lot without my legs under me, but turns out i untapped new territory benching ninety pounds for five reps without relying on my spot. the sushi for lunch afterwards made me feel a little better even though nothing will really make up for what i have to sacrifice

day 2511 – squats and shit

morning squat session was a little ego damaging if i even had any to begin with. i set out to do one fifty five for three reps, but had to lower that expectation and couldn’t even manage two good reps on my own. what made it worse is i hyperextended my left knee again during tricking class on something i shouldn’t have been so careless with. i don’t know how damaged my knee and ligaments are, but all the bad thoughts went through my head. it could be a long, long time until i get to drink bubble tea again. i wouldn’t be able to land a new tricking move, i wouldn’t be able to cut down to my goal weight, i wouldn’t hit my two plate deadlift or my one eighty five squat. none of these can be achieved in order for me to lift my bubble tea ban

day 2505 – dream barbell

i’ve been dreaming of getting my own olympic barbell in the last little while and it finally came true. i’ve been checking online and visiting fitness depot every so often, but all i hear is everything i wanted were out of stock. i made a trip to fitness depot without high hopes, but turns out there’s one left from this week’s shipment. now just waiting on the bumper plates to go back in stock and my garage gym will be complete

day 2502 – surrendered

after a night of ankle disappointment, i still persisted to do the normal morning lift. it wasn’t the normal workload, but it was all that i could muster; did lighter deadlifts and changed up the squats for some overhead presses. it’s also the first time i took a step back and surrendered tricking class even though i wasn’t busy. it didn’t feel right missing my tricking routine, but it also felt right because my body needed to rest and reset. i thought it made more sense to sacrifice today’s class for a chance to have a stronger week

day 2500 – hoarders

looking ahead to when i get my hands on one of the highest sought after commodities of covid – bumper plates. basically all fitness equipment has been out of stock since the very beginning. all fitness stores are severely depleted because everyone is hoarding. i can’t wait to have my own women’s olympic barbell and a set of bumper plates in my garage gym. a nice set of equipment to suit my needs will be expensive, but it’ll be an investment that will have great returns in years to come
