day 2487 – lights out

wrapped up a long training session that was just shy of four hours. it was a gratifying session where most things i practiced felt pretty good and i broke past some small barriers. started off with some basic front tuck drills and loading my cartwheel. eventually was allowed to take it blue mat and had better take offs and higher landings. my back tucks felt strong leaving the ground and landing higher. my back handspring is at a point where i can do two warm-ups and take it to floor. definitely felt more comfortable connecting my cartwheel back handspring and need not to cover up the edge. the one thing i wasn’t too happy with was my webster because it still feels so broken

day 2477 – revisiting tricks

it’s been a rough stretch full of frustration and tears because i really am not getting the touch down raiz and i worry i’ll never get it. it hurts me so much that even my most basic moves are falling apart. i have no choice but to switch it up and work on some of my old tricks. that meant tweaking my front tuck take off to protect my hyperextended knee so i can get my cart front. i also tried some websters but none felt right and the weeks of work i put into drilling it seems to have gone down the drain. the one positive i can take away is i can still try to connect my cartwheel back handspring which i haven’t worked on for weeks. i can’t help but feel defeated for all the things that i want aren’t working

day 2445 – bugged knee

a bit of a bugger because i was doing well in these isolating days until hyper extending my knee on what should’ve been a basic move. it prompted my leg to go into shock, but i was hopeful sitting out a bit would let me continue to train. it was difficult to train, but i wasn’t ready to throw in the white towel. i changed up with it could handle which was predominantly back handsprings and handstands. learning to work with what i have has been a challenge over the course of this recovery, but something i’m slowly starting to adapt to

day 2388 – killarney session

no taekwondo at killarney but a group of my students had their first session of tricking. most of the session was spent mainly working on front tuck and back tuck. they all did very well listening and learning new things. looks like they all enjoyed jumping around and doing the drills. i wanted to be in action as well, but my ankle wasn’t feeling too good last two days so i stayed back a bit. i did demonstrate one back tuck at the end which was pretty satisfying too

day 2346 – plex

had second thought about continuing with the adventure plex plan because my ankle flared up after hockey last night. the ganglion-like lump appeared again even though nothing particular happened during the game. on top of front tucks, i can now do back tucks and back handsprings on the trampoline and airtrack. hopefully next time i come back i’ll also be able to do front handsprings, websters and flash kicks

day 1960 – gaining or losing

trying something new and falling on my face is quite normal. i can’t lie about the disappointment i’ve been facing with my struggles as of late. i feel like i’ve lost the back tuck and aerial, both of which i’ve spent so long working on. the only thing i still have is my front tuck. i feel ashamed that i’m going through this struggle with my flips and tricks and very few people will understand. sports has always come rather easy all my life and my coordination has never been an issue, but for this i always second guess myself and kind of want to give up

day 1906 – front tuck landed

i’m calling this my first official front tuck landed on the floor even though i had one last week that i wasn’t satisfied with. i was hesitant to attempt again; they sensed it but were still adamant on it from the get go. the pressure was strong and everyone had their eyes on me as i warmed myself up on the mats. i was feeling really iffy on the first ones, but eventually stuck a landing. i’m thankful they believed i could and gave me all the support possible. sometimes i need to be pushed; i wouldn’t have done it otherwise if they weren’t forcing it on me

day 1897 – first front

i landed so many good ones on the blue today so decided today was the day to take it to the floor. i fell on my butt so many times before eventually landing one on the floor for the very first time. it was by no means pretty, but i’ll keep working on it to clean it up. it was a really big step out of my comfort zone, but i now know how it feels on the floor. i’m very grateful for the support i’ve received even when it wasn’t working. without their encouragement, i wouldn’t have had the opportunity or confidence to attempt it on the floor. this will be the first of many

day 1888 – big leap

front tucks made vast improvements with my front tucks tonight. stayed after class for another two hours drilling them and getting them on footage. not only was it my first day landing them on red, i also moved to blue and landed them too. it was looking so good i was asked to take it to the floor, but i opted not to because i was nursing so many injuries. never have i thought that i would land a front tuck on the floor before a back tuck. i do regret not taking up that offer, but i’m aiming to land them this week

day 1881 – detention club

stayed after class for another two hours until they decided to lock up the garage doors. i worked at front tucks during the extra time, something i never enjoyed working on. i made progress and started to get the hang of it just by going through the motions. i sense my front tuck might be getting close and the extra time and hard work will pay off soon. the gang wanted to go grab a bite afterwards. i haven’t hung out with them outside before. i couldn’t turn it down; i guess i will have to use up my weekly cheat meal quota for this
