day 2204 – pause snatch

it feels weird to be ay apex on thursday instead of tuesday, but it’s better to give my back and neck more time. to be honest, both were still so stiff and tender than i didn’t think i could snatch. week one of tech week working on pause snatch and front squat on the minute style. it felt pleasantly strong and worked up to thirty eight kilogram pause snatch complex. it was a busy day – i had three back to back activities today, all half an hour apart. after olympic lifting session, was softball playoffs round robin and massage appointment. needless to say i didn’t get home to eat dinner until 9:46pm, and at that point i had fourteen minutes left to eat before my window closed

day 2190 – pr clean

since i’m expecting deloading week to come soon, i just went for it. this would be the heaviest clean i’ve ever done and i’m truly proud of it. in the past i’ve only hovered around one hundred fifteen, rarely get into the twenties because i struggled to get out of the bottom position. my front squat have improved so much since joining apex that this weight was easily handled. i have had my eyes set on the one plate ever since i started getting the hang of olympic cleans, but who knows, maybe one day i can even make the reds

day 2188 – snatch fail

my muscle snatches was in great form from the start of the workout. this is a good sign when the plan was to test for my current max. i made it all the way to two kilograms shy of my personal best before failing two in a row. i put everything into the final snatch and finally redeemed myself. it was then time to test max paused front squat. i easily hit one plate which was surprised me, but stopped at that because of time and volume constraints. i’m still happy walking away today with both the forty kilo snatch and one plate paused front squat

day 2181 – pause squats

working those pause squats up to triples of 125 this week. pleasantly surprised myself, and my coach, that he suddenly decided to add a fourth set. the tech work and muscle snatches are really forcing me to get under quicker with my lock out and the pause at the bottom is helping me secure the catch better. i felt so strong and focused on all my lifts with no dropped snatches. the bonus is surpassing the pre-planned weight by a kilogram. i was so hyped after the session, i felt like i could continue to lift some more

day 2167 – spiderman far from home

it was a very good day. i had good snatches and strong paused squats before catching spiderman far from home with friends. i redeemed myself from last week’s poor showing by working up to two kilograms shy of my personal snatch record. also feels good to add five pounds to my paused squats. i walked into the cinema feeling great and perhaps watched my favourite spiderman movie of all time. i thought his newest suit is the best looking ever and wished that i could have waited before buying mine. this one is probably one that i would rewatch once it’s made available for streaming

day 2105 – one rep max

for the past several weeks, my workouts at apex have been strategically programmed to make strength gains. i’m excited that it is finally time to test out my one rep max. my snatches felt strong leading up the heaviest i’ve ever lifted over my head. though i had a rocky bottom catching position, i managed to save it and hit a pr in both snatches and front squats. it took more than one attempt, but i walked away with a forty two kilo snatch and one hundred and fifty pound front squat. i’m extremely happy with the results as that’s a five kilo increase in my snatch. coach told me the yellow plates are within reach, something i’ve always thought i’d never be able to attain

day 2098 – shaky

i’m not going to lie. i feeling pretty depleted after today’s workout session. for the first time at apex, i failed to hit my pre-programmed weights. i missed a number of snatches and fell short of the weight i was suppose to lift for both my snatches and front squats. i’m not going to lie, i saw the weights set in my program and immediately felt intimidated. of the missed snatches, i didn’t give the effort to fight for the hold. though i was three pounds short of my one forty five squats, i’m still pretty excited to have a small increase from last week
