day 2152 – softball sunset

i was afraid i forgot how to play softball after not having played for five consecutive weeks. my first test came early in the game when a pop up came in my direction in the bottom of the first inning. perhaps i was feeling anxious; i swung at the first pitch of my first at bat. after i got the first one out of the way, i settled down and took a few pitches until i saw one i liked. i connected in my next two at bats with two solid base hits and rbi

2099 – softball season

i was unable to attend softball opening weekend so espr season kicks off for me with a double header. i got reacquainted at first base which is the position i’ll probably play at most of the season. the swing is a little off after eight month off season. i only managed to get on base three of the six at bats. i took a hard ball to the shin early in the second double header which got me limping. i didn’t need to unroll my high socks during the game because i already saw a big bump forming. when i got home, i checked the damage but made the executive decision i didn’t need to get it examined further

day 1843 – back on field

my shoulder still feel restricted and painful in outstretched positions, but back in my cleats and on the grass field playing softball for the first time in four weeks. i have to protect my shoulder by limiting the amount of movement it can do. realizing that’s quite difficult when i have to snatch all of throws that come my way to first base. i’m not going to lie it hurts when playing, and i’m sure that expected on my first games back

day 1813 – first base lady

off softball for two weeks and my timing is a bit off at both the batter’s box and at first base. i’m either a little early or late getting my bat around, but i’m sure it won’t be long until i make solid contact again. this season i’ve earned the trust of my teammates and proved that i can be the go-to first base woman. playing first base has it’s challenges. not only do i have to contend with the sun, protect myself, avoid the runner but also catch the ball. today was one of those days where i had to contend with the setting sun for the first four innings

day 1779 – baseball tees

team picture time when everyone is upgraded from worn out cotton tees to sporting new baseball drifit. it would have been perfect if most of us ordered one size down; nonetheless, we all look like better ballplayers despite our record. squint field must be the least bug friendly field we play at; i feel like the bugs realize that i’m wearing expired off bug spray. it was a close game until the end when we lost it in open inning. i’m quite disappointed with my last inning at bat when i was pressing too hard to pull it down left field line

day 1772 – six innings

fielded only six innings against wombats before time cap because we struggled to get outs. it was a little windy and fielding more than not didn’t allow me to stay warm and into the game. even at the plate, i didn’t have a good swinging night with two walks and two infield outs. if i recall correctly, wombats are in tier c. we’re still sitting at two wins thus far but we still had fun like we always do. encouraging signs that everyone is still learning and improving as each game goes by

day 1768 – squint softball

mother nature has its way with softball sundays. it was raining during our season opener weekend and no different today for our early morning double header. layering up with baselayers and sweats to stay warm from the rain. double header was followed by an evening hockey game. as if my body wasn’t aching and stiff enough, add a stiff and swollen ankle to the mix after blocking a shot
