day 2505 – dream barbell

i’ve been dreaming of getting my own olympic barbell in the last little while and it finally came true. i’ve been checking online and visiting fitness depot every so often, but all i hear is everything i wanted were out of stock. i made a trip to fitness depot without high hopes, but turns out there’s one left from this week’s shipment. now just waiting on the bumper plates to go back in stock and my garage gym will be complete

day 2396 – cartwheel back

i was feeling a little lazy and slightly unwell ever since my abbreviated gym session in the morning. i’m really glad i still went to open gym because i came out with a very big reward. ever so grateful that the coach spent time helping me out with both my standing back tucks and my cartwheel back tucks. he who believed i could do it on the floor and urged me to do so by setting up progression stations. he’s the reason i landed my cartwheel back tuck on floor tonight. life is kind of crazy. the same move that tore my foot happened exactly a year ago today; i thought i had to quit for good. i’m beyond happy i came full circle and landed what i thought i could never ever accomplish ever again

day 2387 – raiz-ing

in class working on raiz this week and i feel like it’s a move i can have. after class time, i worked on some cartwheel back and i finally leveled up and started from airtrack into blue. i think i crossed the bridge by being able to do it on my own and get around to my feet. my backside 900 is also coming together and feeling much better than weeks ago. i think i’ll try to throw it into a combo next time. it’d be nice to eventually put all four moves together

day 2375 – dim sum fortune

sunday afternoon dimsum had a surprise appearance from the chinese money man. he came into the restaurant and handed out red pockets to everyone. it was a gesture more than anything because the red pockets only had a candy. after dimsum, i relaxed at home before going to open gym where i finally got a chance to work on cartwheel flash. i hit my head onto the mat multiple times, but i think i needed to know how it feels like

day 2340 – century snatch

hit a high of forty three kilo snatch back in august and been stuck for the longest time. i matched that a couple times but couldn’t surpass it no matter how i tried. my goal of snatching the yellow plates was pretty much done for once the final week of the year rolled around. i walked in this morning thinking i’d give it one last shot and i’ll accept it knowing i gave it everything i had. i worked my way up to the century mark and took four attempts before i made it. good thing i didn’t pack it in before i succeeded or i would never have felt how fruitful the outcome was

day 2315 – christmas tree top

once last week of november hits, everyone was putting up their christmas trees. i was a little behind but my christmas tree is finally up in my living room piled with decorations and lights. my family typically decorates all over the interior of the house, but the past two years we’ve lessened because taking it down is not as fun. this month’s electric bills will be higher than other months

day 2299 – home working

too sick and contagious to be going into the office so i finally got approval for a remote laptop. i could very well not be working and resting would do me good, but there’s just way too many rushed deadlines. it’s a smarter and safer option for the company because who knows how many people i could infect if i went in. with the amount of coughing fits i have, i was not in the condition to even be outside. all the monitors on my desk kind of makes it look like a security office

day 2282 – allan mcgavin

starting off november with some good news. four days, five clinics and seven physicians later, i finally have my name on the long mri waitlist. back at the ubc allan mcgavin sports clinic again, this time the sports medicine doctor deems that mri is now a necessity. i’ve been needing this referral for eight months. the two doctors did a bunch of assessements on my foot and deduced the idea of a bone breakage. although a liagment issue isn’t easier to deal with, it’s a relief to know i can ditch the aircast

day 2278 – back handspring

i’m very happy to have ended my dry spell by landing my back handspring on floor after class. this is a move i wanted a while back but was told to hold off until my back tuck was consistent. drilling it the past weeks while staying patient with my bounding moves has really paid off. although it’s been feeling good the past week and getting spotted floor attempts, i couldn’t get myself to floor it by myself. good thing i was pushed to just do it today and landed a decent one on my first attempt. aside from my back handspring, i’ve been feeling pretty good with a few other moves

day 2247 – kip up

i was forced to re-train aerials because my ankle was feeling wonky after a landing. big surprise came as my long lost aerial, that wasn’t even close to landing for weeks, felt super solid on blue mat today. the bonus of the session came at the end when thought i’d get a few reps of kip ups in to close the night. somehow it just started to click today; i fluked the first one and fluked another half a dozen. i’m reminded that sometimes reward comes simply from being stubborn and persistent about training and getting reps in. i’m hoping that’s the case for some of the other moves i’m chasing
