day 2278 – back handspring

i’m very happy to have ended my dry spell by landing my back handspring on floor after class. this is a move i wanted a while back but was told to hold off until my back tuck was consistent. drilling it the past weeks while staying patient with my bounding moves has really paid off. although it’s been feeling good the past week and getting spotted floor attempts, i couldn’t get myself to floor it by myself. good thing i was pushed to just do it today and landed a decent one on my first attempt. aside from my back handspring, i’ve been feeling pretty good with a few other moves

day 2271 – out of reach

i once wrote this list of things i wanted to drill and moves that i want to have. it was something i needed to keep myself accountable while chasing these moves, but none of this is happening and not sure if i’ll ever be able to get back to drilling anything. honest to god, it’s really wearing on me and some days i cry myself to sleep knowing i may never be able to achieve any of these goals. i’m going to put up a fight, knowing so

day 2249 – testers and testees

i never kept track of the number of promotion tests i’ve led, but if i had to make a guess, it would over fifty. done another colour belt tes today before heading out to flightclub. i almost didn’t make it out to open gym because i joined them for an spontaneous dinner. i still ended up going, and worked on some back handsprings drills which i found quite insightful. i stayed until the end of the open gym, i’m going to be super tired tomorrow morning

day 2192 – master class

made a request to attend master class today because i didn’t really train yesterday. i had never been to a master class and wasn’t sure if i was allowed to. thankfully many students are out of town so it was almost like private lesson. i worked on a lot of progression drills towards flash kick. i made progress, but i just can’t seem to break the tucking habit. i need to work harder on this trick because it just doesn’t feel natural to stay open. also had some self practice time to work on some cart twist and i think i’m catching on the timing

day 2026 – open practice

squirtle and fishsticks merge to hold an open practice so both teams can get ready for their respective game twos. also a good time to run through defensive drills to since i’m put on defense next friday. for some odd reason, my shin pad and skate tongue was causing a havoc for my left foot. lots of ice this weekend so i’m glad there’s no powerskating during this long weekend

day 2001 – blue plates

the last time i walked out, i had set my sight on the blue plates as my next goal. i worked through the technique drills using light weights before we had some fun loading up the bar. the small adjustments helped with my mechanics and overall timing from the start to finish. i made that blue plate today and probably more if my quads weren’t the limiting factor. i found where i struggled was coming out of the block. i’ll need to work harder on my front squats to balance out my pull strength. once i get that down, i’ll have my sight set on the reds

day 1966 – open doors

dropping in to a rare visit to open gym because i want to make a big push to regain some moves before christmas break kicks in. i’ve had a rough patch and felt like i’ve lost a lot of what i worked so hard for. tonight i was given some basic instructions and drills to get me started on the moon kick. after i got tired or moon kicks, i threw some gainers into the foam pit. also touched on some front tucks, roundoffs, handstands and back tucks. it was a productive open gym and i’ll look for ways to go to some more
