day 2487 – lights out

wrapped up a long training session that was just shy of four hours. it was a gratifying session where most things i practiced felt pretty good and i broke past some small barriers. started off with some basic front tuck drills and loading my cartwheel. eventually was allowed to take it blue mat and had better take offs and higher landings. my back tucks felt strong leaving the ground and landing higher. my back handspring is at a point where i can do two warm-ups and take it to floor. definitely felt more comfortable connecting my cartwheel back handspring and need not to cover up the edge. the one thing i wasn’t too happy with was my webster because it still feels so broken

day 2432 – garage gym

starting the new home workout program because covid situation is forcing apex to change. i still get to go in once a week, but the home workout program is tailored to a lot of technical work. it was rough on my grip and forearm because i’m not used to the diameter of the men’s barbell and a lot of the drills starts from hang position. i’m told i can use straps next time to save my forearms and get. i finally got a chance to use the plyo boxes i built a while back

day 2415 – phone spam

waited well after class until all other classes and students dissipated so we could have some space and equipment to work with. during the wait, we had fun trying out the vlogger life by spamming photos and videos on someone’s unattended phone. sadly neither my back tuck nor any of my kicks felt good today. i did get a chance at the very end to work on my webster and aerial takeoff. i’m still ashamed i don’t get it and i can’t tell if i’m making progress with it

day 2388 – killarney session

no taekwondo at killarney but a group of my students had their first session of tricking. most of the session was spent mainly working on front tuck and back tuck. they all did very well listening and learning new things. looks like they all enjoyed jumping around and doing the drills. i wanted to be in action as well, but my ankle wasn’t feeling too good last two days so i stayed back a bit. i did demonstrate one back tuck at the end which was pretty satisfying too

day 2343 – marshmallow

when i said big things was coming this year, i didn’t mean marshmallow. starting off the sunny new year day being strong and chipping away at clean and jerk technique. i also got my car’s headlight replaced, cleaned out the rest of my wardrobe, organized some things and watched some prince of tennis. the dinner table was stacked with eight delicious dishes. ended the day relaxing with a facial mask. i would say that’s decent start to the year

day 2330 – jerk drills

second apex session of the week to make up for the missed weeks in november. just clean and jerks today and the jerk drills at the beginning seemed to have helped my overall timing. my second day back during clean and jerks and it’s good to know that i just matched my fifty two kilo personal best. i’m back to the point of being two kilos away from the yellows and three kilos from blues respectively. i really do hope i can make them before the year ends. wasn’t expecting to squat today, but did it at the end because i was asked to

day 2319 – woojin workshop

my killarney kids had a private session taught by woojin and his teammates. he went through a bunch of drills for basic kicks. it was a good to get an idea how koreans train their basics and a good indication of why their basics are so good. my kids could also benefit with more of this training if they want to improve in high performance. honestly i get anxiety because i really wish i could start practicing my spinning kicks again, but i also get anxiety because i’m not sure if my ankle will be ready for all that

day 2278 – back handspring

i’m very happy to have ended my dry spell by landing my back handspring on floor after class. this is a move i wanted a while back but was told to hold off until my back tuck was consistent. drilling it the past weeks while staying patient with my bounding moves has really paid off. although it’s been feeling good the past week and getting spotted floor attempts, i couldn’t get myself to floor it by myself. good thing i was pushed to just do it today and landed a decent one on my first attempt. aside from my back handspring, i’ve been feeling pretty good with a few other moves

day 2271 – out of reach

i once wrote this list of things i wanted to drill and moves that i want to have. it was something i needed to keep myself accountable while chasing these moves, but none of this is happening and not sure if i’ll ever be able to get back to drilling anything. honest to god, it’s really wearing on me and some days i cry myself to sleep knowing i may never be able to achieve any of these goals. i’m going to put up a fight, knowing so

day 2249 – testers and testees

i never kept track of the number of promotion tests i’ve led, but if i had to make a guess, it would over fifty. done another colour belt tes today before heading out to flightclub. i almost didn’t make it out to open gym because i joined them for an spontaneous dinner. i still ended up going, and worked on some back handsprings drills which i found quite insightful. i stayed until the end of the open gym, i’m going to be super tired tomorrow morning
