day 2180 – three bag

left my jersey in the wash, but at least i found a shirt to wear. first time i’m fielding on the right side of the diamond at third base. i was ready to take some balls off the body because the ball really kicks up after a bouncing on gravel. ended the night with only two bruises, one on the bicep and one on the stomach. i haven’t figured out how to take high balls off the backhand but i did made some pretty good stops and threw out two runners at first base. the team played really well defensively considering we were playing opponents a tier above

day 1764 – batters box

i was massively irritated at work today because some coworkers dumped urgent matters on me with no appreciation. to further that, they used their manager’s authority to change my priorities. as stressful as it was, glad that could be balanced out with some softball. played first base for both games in the double header and realized i’ve developed a love for this position. i didn’t swing the bat too well, nor ran the bases too well all due to a sprained ankle, but my glove did the bulk of the work. the one position i have yet to try but would like to is shortstop

day 1481 – pitch and play

after a full day of round robin, back on the diamond pumped for softball playoffs. no one expected us to last long in the playoffs, but we made a case for ourselves making it deep into the playoffs. playing five games in nine hours one break in between was tiring, but i played some of my best games as the day wore on and so did my teammates. we played our way up to semi finals and potentially could have been finalists. props to everyone who came out to play. win or lose, i’m proud of the team for finishing the season strong after such a fun season. that tan just got a whole lot darker after being on the field all day

day 1437 – slopitch team

aside from chasing a pitch first at bat, i settled down and had myself a very strong game. played a good hard game and ran the bases hard. my offense went three for four, made solid contact, got a rbis, and beat out some throws. there was lots of action at first base this game and even i surprised myself with all the catches and shags. i quite like it at first base, but also like using my speed to track down balls. i’m rounding out to be a good utility player that can fit multiple positions. i hope to try my hand at shortstop one day

day 1427 – on the diamond

back on the diamond after skipping the last two games for meetings. the hardest adjustment is getting my timing and reading the pitch. my first two at bats were terrible, but i finally calibrated to finished the game with two base hits. there were couple weird series of events that ended up in a double play, but the ump was on top of it.  we got blown out but had a good rally in the sixth and final inning

day 1109 – diamond two

the warmup for my softball playoff game was walking across the beautiful but neverending mowed grass. it was so hot under direct sunlight, but some would say it’s perfect weather to play ball. i started the season batting ninth, kept moving up as the games went on and today found myself third in the batting order. the season didn’t end in glorified fashion, but it was the team effort that counted. i played hard even when we were trailing, striking the ball three solid times along with a walk. i guess an 8am game has a lot to do with how sleepy i am. i’ll pass out early and get my stuff done tomorrow morning instead

day 1077 – batter up

being active is just the way i like it, even when my limbs are sore. on the diamond playing softball and back catching once again. feeling more comfortable and better both on the field and at the plate. i managed two hits and a strikeout which equates to a 0.667 batting average; not bad for a rookie. after the game, i was even asked to join their team as a regular. a bunch of us keeners stayed after to do some extra batting and fielding practice. during batting practice, i was making solid contact and taking good cuts with each swing
