day 1664 – boarding school

expected nothing short of crowds at cypress after some significant snowfall in the city. long lineups with freezing temperature, but still very fun learning how to carve properly. sunny day with lots of powder, but all the accumulated wipeouts are still pretty harsh. i’m slightly addicted to skiing and boarding and i want to keep going until the season end. but first, i have to stop at physio to fix up my whole body that’s beaten up from so much activity all week long; my physio will not be impressed that he has to attend to so many body parts

day 1649 – poutinery

my once in a year poutine fulfilled at fishstick cypress bonder. basically the only time i ever have a legitimate reason to eat poutine because of the things served there, it’s the best bang for your buck. to be fair, the output spent skiing likely cancels out the amount this bowl contains. the weather in the morning was wet and foggy when we were up at the skychair, but the skies cleared up as the afternoon rolled around. we went at a moderately fast pace when everyone had relatively good skill level. my best guess is we went through over dozen runs and by the end my legs were pretty tired. the wipeout near the end was a pretty big jolt to my neck and back

day 1246 – stormtrooper

going up cypress mountain to do some night laps in the fog. it was snowing hard with lots of new powder but we were unable to escape the fog even at the top of the skychair. within the five hour window, we squeezed in twelve runs, rode four different lifts and skied all the green and blue runs. it was overcrowded by kids and beginners early on, but they dissipated as it got darker and colder. it was really fun despite doing many unintentional jumps because all the grooves, bumps, hills and moguls were not visible in the fog

day and night

on cypress mountain doing what i ought to be doing in the winter season. this season, i changed it up and took up snowboarding as part of my 2016 to do list. it’s something i really wanted to add to my repertoire long ago, but was delayed due to commitments and parents restrictions. i didn’t learn with the best conditions, in fact, in one of the worst where the snowstorm was so strong it was blowing me uphill. some said that i was crazy for doing so in such conditions, but i wasn’t going to be picky and only saw it was a challenge. if i could pick it up in this condition, any normal condition would be a walk in the park. definitely want to hit the slopes again before vancouver winter season is all said and done

day 919 – night pow

the windstorm and unforeseen fog condition can’t stop us from our friday night riding. this is far from optimal learning conditions, but it simply gives me bigger test of adaptability. cypress had to put restrictions and close to lifts earlier than usual due to hailing, strong winds and low visibility. it was still a great night with my first boarding experience, not before a morning leg day gym session. am i ever asking for soreness

day 884 – fresh start

image

starting the new year skiing down the powders of cypress. we were one of those eager skiers who beat others up the mountain before the morning rush and out-ski the afternoon skiiers to avoid the evening traffic. i must have done minimum ten runs up and down the mountain before it was all said and done; not bad for my first skiing excursion of the season. my legs are certainly feeling tired after a full day of exertion. had some wipeouts when i unknowingly went on some black diamond runs. the weather was gorgeous, the snow conditions were great, couldn’t have asked for a better way to kickstart a 2016 full of promises

day 215 – cypress we go

skiing season came late this year but better late than never. first time going up this year with some crazy friends who speeds down black runs and jumps at will. finally enough volume and fresh powder, but too much on some runs caused a few of us to wipe up hard and way too foggy the visibility was less than 15 feet. very happy that my ankle recovery is coming along nicely but also helped that the ski boot doesn’t allow for any extra movements
