day 1475 – rehab’d out

checking out of rehab is a rewarding feeling as today marks the last of the program. i started off being very frustrated since recovery was slow and my body was reacting to movements much differently after the accident; the more agitated i got, the harder the exercise felt. over the many rehab sessions with kinesiologist, we went through a lot dynamic stretches and compound exercises to regain what i once had. been worked mighty hard where both both in strength and knowledge happened. it’s one of the most satisfying when i noticed increased jump in my game and along the way i built and broke plateaus

day 1471 – doms

img_20200124_1550217030350975752685590.jpga day after a hit my squat pr at an unexpected time, doms has taken control over and my legs are out of commission. i longed to reach my peak again and kin forced it to happen. he said that’s enough of plateau and wanted to break it for me. i’m glad he cracked me cause i would never have made the bold move myself. hope this is the first and my other personal best will be coming once i am completely out of rehab

day 1334 – powering up

hitting the gym one more time this weekend for good measures. power cleans never felt the same ever since my chest took the bar three months ago and i’ve stayed away from big weights cause i was scared. wanted to work on the mechanics of my cleans to dust off the rust and regain confidence. just slowly working my way back but who knew i’d be pr’ing on my third time since the long layoff. i was more than stoked because it was a huge barrier for me

day 1332 – new pumps

img_20200204_1708282088741943394561803.jpgthe major delay is over as i decided it’s finally time to pull out the new pumps. they felt amazing from the get go and required no breaking in. doing the same program but only everything seemed so much harder after taking a whole month break. it was a battle, but the satisfaction of grinding through the workout and getting my squats done overpowers. i must say i missed those lifts and glad to be cleaning again. hopefully the pumps will spark my comeback and get me back on track

day 1227 – what snow

img_20200204_1920013728628154769422319.jpgso it’s snowing outside but not even snow stops me from this part of my day. my lifts are getting better but not progressing to where i had hoped. i need to work a little harder on them but my back is giving me lots of trouble i don’t know where it’s misaligned, locked, tight or strained. in the meantime i also need fix my eating that has gotten really poor with days where i wouldn’t have an appetite

day 1178 – get up and go

image

felt strong on this friday morning workout; the reset probably had some affect. still didn’t manage much sleep but energy level was decent enough to push through as the day unfolded. getting through the lifts a little easier with each successive workout, but i’ll keep it as is until i get back from portland. a week out of competition, i am not quite sure how i am feeling. competition aside, i’m unclear why i  feel the way i do, or maybe it doesn’t even matter anymore

summer special

the end of september can only mean that summer is officially over. september was a rough month, but i had a great summer and offseason away from dodgeball and taekwondo life. it was a summer with lots of happenings, new undertakings and big decisions that involved making a change, stepping out of my comfort zone and of course taking a chance. i live a very active lifestyle and took full advantage of the extra free time i got this summer by making my lifestyle even more active. i found myself getting really into crossfit olympic lifting plus also making the one plate club which is a big improvement. although an injury has momentarily stopped me from lifting, nothing will stop me once i regain my health. i had a blast with mo going on adventures. together, we created a lot of lomoventures with the highlight being a nice harrison hotsprings getaway. needless to say, we’ve been through a lot and grown significantly. he’s basically my zen when i get too stressed and uptight about things. no relationship is completely problem-free – we’re not different, but we’ve done well in this area. we don’t always see eye to eye, but we make sure we’re created equal and know that we like each other for who we are, then we’ll work things out. other notable events include completing a spartan sprint, playing on a softball team, training with national team coach, hiking, joining a hockey league. and of course some things never change like hitting tennis balls, visits to physio, annual walk with the dragon and the random pigging out. i look forward to improving and building upon what summer 2016 was all about

day 1149 – plate less

image

it’s an off day away from the gym once again so here’s my version of throwback thursday. every time i walk by this rack i have the urge to lift these. it’s been weeks since i have and i miss it too much. i disregarded restrictions and tried on a number of occasions, but ended up giving my back more setbacks. i’d be lying if i said i wasn’t in pain more than half my waking hour, but i want to keep doing what i do. more importantly, my october competition status is up in the air if it doesn’t get better soon. i can only stay patient for so long, and i am not a patient person when it comes to recovery. when will i be back lifting normally without pain??

day 1128 – cracked

image

i am sad my phone took a hard fall. it’s like it had a bone fracture except it doesn’t grow back together in six weeks. the day didn’t go well – not feeling good, didn’t make my lifts and not being productive. maybe the turn of the calendar signifies summer vacation is through and competition training schedule is set to start up next week. the pressure is really starting to hit me now that offseason is over. offseason training was good because i got a chance to focus on new things and not worry about coaching, cutting and activity restrictions. the grind will soon begin, am i prepared??

day 1127 – post rolling

img_20200203_1330523310199490436145819.jpgwrapping up august with a satisfying workout and some intense rolling. the month has flown by so fast and today’s weather tells me summer season won’t last. reflecting on the month, i have made plenty of progress both physically and mentally, and in turn grown as a person. i have a lot to be thankful for, those who didn’t give up on me. i found that if i put my mind to something, i surprise myself and don’t always lose to my own expectations. the self realizations doesn’t end here, it’s only the beginning. stay tuned for the months to come on my journey to finding myself
