day 2390 – donnie yen

family day statutory holiday started with a strong session at apex, coupled with a family lunch and drama time, and finished with a laid back enter the fat dragon movie starring donny yen. no misses on my clean wave and topped out at fifty nine kilos, which is only two kilos shy of my personal best. i got a taste of what seventy five kilo front rack feels like from jerk dips. though it sounds like a big jump, i handled it well and think i could go up next time i do the same workout. seventh week without snatches; i do worry i won’t remember how to snatch when my shoulder is ready to return

day 2384 – clean waves

building on last week’s workout by adding two kilos to all my cleans in the wave. pleased that i made all my lifts and majority of them felt good. heaviest clean of the day was fifty seven kilos, which matches the heaviest i’ve attempted at apex but failed to make a year ago. i dread the panda pull for it’s an extraordinary drill i still don’t understand. last part of the workout was heavy jerk dips at seventy kilos. i don’t think i’ve ever felt much weight on my front rack, but i didn’t die

day 2379 – squatter problems

excited to be back at apex after three weeks of hiatus. i couldn’t be whiny with what i was told to do. instead of doing three reps of my paused squats, he changed it to five reps with the same weight. also did a clean wave and it felt pretty good enough to work up to the blues. not that i don’t want to do squats, i like squatting, but i also knew i needed to trick and play hockey tomorrow night. i know i’m in trouble when my legs are already jelly coming home from the gym. i jumped on the vyper for half an hour before i gave it a rest

day 2300 – calling my name

the platform and the barbell was taunting me as i walked across. i couldn’t help myself but to stop and try my hands at some cleans today. i didn’t get very far in weight, but i think it was smart for me to stay within a reasonable range. my foot was a little uncomfortable at times just going through some of the motions, but i managed and didn’t do any further damages. step by step i’m testing the limits of my foot and hoping my full return to sports can happen sooner rather than later. being on the disabled list has sucked and staying patient has never been one of my forte

day 2237 – clean reached

when i first started learning to olympic lift with jae three years ago, i wished to one day full clean one plate. i never got close before took a break and only restarted with apex the start of this year. through these eight months, there’s been steady progress in both snatches and cleans while solidifying my squat strength. what i thought was a lost goal was made true today and i couldn’t be more happy to share it with my coaches who helped me along the way. this is obviously just a milestone with much more to come

day 2230 – squatting game

i laid off my clean and squat workout regime ever since i had to prepare for my test, so i thought i’d take whatever i could muster. i started with cleans but it didn’t feel strong with my sore hip flexors felt sore, i decided to cut it short and be spontaneous with the weights. i did back squats for doubles all the way up to one forty five – where i thought i’d stop. spontaneous and curious, i kept going for singles and increased it by 2.5 pounds as i felt okay. had there been a spotter, i would’ve gone for a second rep

day 2200 – morning nash

probably shouldn’t be working out doing the things i did, but i’m stubborn about it and it was worth trying. i took it down a notch for the cleans but even then it was giving my back problems. at that point, i was content with meeting the same squat weight as last week. this will be a weird week because my olympic lifting is temporarily switched thursday to give my back extra two days. was also suppose to have softball practice in the afternoon but got rained out. instead, i joined my family for dimsum, something my stomach is not too crazy about
