day 2381 – glutinous rice balls

after teaching my usual taekwondo shift, i had a bunch of paperwork to take care of and didn’t want to go out. it was family time at home with glutinous rice balls for dessert – a ritual on the fifteenth day after chinese new year. it was so delicious i couldn’t help myself but have a second serving even knowing it’s not the healthiest thing. i hope i had enough expenditure today to balance out the calories

day 2375 – dim sum fortune

sunday afternoon dimsum had a surprise appearance from the chinese money man. he came into the restaurant and handed out red pockets to everyone. it was a gesture more than anything because the red pockets only had a candy. after dimsum, i relaxed at home before going to open gym where i finally got a chance to work on cartwheel flash. i hit my head onto the mat multiple times, but i think i needed to know how it feels like

day 2014 – lunar new year meal

lunar new year calls for a family feast that fills my dining table. it was a full on ten course meal that started with a fish corn soup and ended with a sparkling juice. i enjoyed the meal and quality time because we were in the comfort of our own dining room which i much prefer over crowding into fully booked restaurants. its crazy how fast time goes by. here’s hoping the year of the pig will be a good and prosperous one

day 1662 – chinese new year celly

the year of the dog starts off with more food celebrations; chinese new year celebration at the office, then with family. stayed up late to make long distance calls to my grandparents and relatives in hong kong. it’s good that i hit the gym between the two chinese meals. i guess i’ll run and workout a little harder to work the food overload. and at the end of the day, i have a few red pockets to take home with me

day 1279 – dodgeball night

red pockets up for grab at rdl because we wanted to share the joy of chinese new year. i fell to a low point yesterday, but i rebooted and had a good start to the week. it helps as i’m transitioning into a new program. day one felt a lot better and stronger than what i had on paper. i’m proud that i could withstand whatever came at me and i can’t wait to see how far this program will take me

day 1276 – lunar new year

my mom prepared way too much food for the lunar chinese new year hotpot. it was a good dinner to close off the year and i’m looking to continue my workaholic ways in the year of the rooster; this is the time work extra hard. i’m stuffed but we did not even clear half the amount of food on this table, so i expect to have another hotpot this weekend. i don’t like the feeling of feeling bad for having eaten

day 920 – stomach upheaval

how a chinese new year feast can throw me off my game. i am feeling sick after eating this meal since my regular practice is not accustomed to the grease. i do not wish to eat another one of these meals for a while, my stomach prefers my meal prepping more than ever. i guess that’s why i’m a picky eater and all i’m saying is i choose my food carefully

day 573 – red pockets

image

i didn’t get a whole lot of red pockets for chinese new year as usual and if i were in hong kong it would be totally different story. every year i miss out on all the red pockets from grandparents and relatives overseas, but i can’t be bothered too much, i’ll take it as it’s given. it’s who remembers to give it to me that counts. be grateful because there are many people who don’t receive any

day 568 – sheep year’s first

imageit’s a good start to my sheep year when i can go to the gym on the very first day. my poor legs and glutes are still sore but if i can walk, i make no exceptions. felt like today was an important one for me just to get myself going again and i do feel like i have turned the corner somewhat. i want to make sure i gear down and do it right because there’s really little time and little room for error. let’s make the year of the sheep a good one

day 567 – chinese new year celebration

chinese new year dinner with my family is inevitablly another day of continued heavy food consumption. we were eating away at the table full of food with portions that never seems to get any smaller, but i guess it goes with the chinese tradition of having leftovers. can’t go through chinese new year without having chicken and fish because we asians live by a lot of rules and superstitions
