day 1800 – canucks showdown

saw so many familiar faces watching the canucks prospects summer showdown. there’s a few highly touted prospects i’m really excited to see and hopefully one or two of them will make the big club next year. i enjoyed the format of the event cause i got to watch them in five on five, four on four, three or three and even shootout. the carve burger was okay, but there was no nutritional value. i guess going with the poke bowl would have given me some preferred veggies

day 1710 – sedin day

forget about dodgeball, i’m watching sedin brother’s final home game ever. the game was simply amazing. it was an emotional night; i found myself feeling the sadness knowing it’s the last time i’ll get to watch them play in this jersey. their final career home game had a perfect ending, as one would have written the script. daniel potted two goals while henrik padded his assist stats on both. to add to their amazing stats, daniel holds all-time record with double digit overtime goals and henrik holds the all-time overtime assist record. one more game in their nhl career, and canucks career. i’m sure there’ll be just as much mixed emotional heading into that game. “don’t cry because it’s over, be happy that it happened.” they have certainly left a great legacy

sedinery era

i’m utmost shocked the sedin twins have announced retirement today. when the news first appeared on my news feed, my heart sank and i was crying inside. how i wished it was fake news, how i wished it was still april fools. i remember watching the draft pick in 1999, when two baby-faced boys stepped on the stage after brian burke announced his second and third picks consecutively. they took a lot of criticism over the years, but for the longest time they carried the team on their backs. it was evident to see their growth in nhl, as i watched them turn from boys to men. through the eighteen years of sedinery, they invented a brand of telepathic hockey never seen before, and they have the hart, art ross, king clancy and ted lindsay to show for. despite not having won a stanley cup in their nhl days, they had an amazing career in vancouver. the fact they stayed a canuck their whole career says a lot with totals like over two thousand six hundred games played and over two thousand one hundred points. regardless, cup or no cup, they were remarkable players that displayed class and leadership on and off the ice. so often i hear opposing players have insurmountable respect for them, even those on rival teams. i wish they didn’t make this announcement so i can continue to watch them play, but it felt right for them and their families. i’m going to miss their cycles, slap passes, between the legs tip passes, playoff heroics, and most importantly i’m going to miss seeing number twenty-two and thirty-three on the ice. the fact both of them attaining their one thousandth point this season is a very fitting way to end a hockey career. they’ll go down as one of the best twins to have ever played the game. i hope one day they will be inducted into the hockey hall of fame

day 1678 – surrey central

two straight sundays i venture into surrey, both times for the reason of going to the hockey shop. dropping off my jersey for a custom stitching and preparing it for the next game. after some browsing in the goalie section, went next door into surrey central to get my half off happy hour matcha tea latte. walked passed club 16 and peeked into the facility. i could get use to see linden’s face each time before heading through the gym doors

day 1637 – canuckle head

dethroning the kings wasn’t expected but that’s what canucks did as eriksson potted two goals within four minutes into the first period. my prediction prior to the game was a win four to two,  but they went on to drown the kings six to two. getting the win was good but also seeing boeser score two more and horvat finally back in the lineup was even better. this night out was definitely needed as i had one heck of a day at work fielding ridiculous requests after requests. wish these people dishing out unreasonable requests would have some understanding and knowledge of what we do is really not cut and paste

day 1599 – open practice

was in for a treat to an exclusive canucks event of open practice plus meet and greet. boeser’s line up was by far the longest but so thrilled to have taken a photo with this good looking fellow and even gotten his autograph. it may have been another casual practice for them, but i watched with excitement and my nerdy side came out. i left happy having gotten a few more photos and autographs, including arguably the best goalie in canucks history

day 1583 – daniel thousandth

daniel sedin joining his brother and making the canuck millenium point list. pretty sure this is henrik but either way they look the same any way. an honor to have met one of them in person and watched him make one thousand happen all in a canucks jersey. a great accomplishment and a treat to have watched seventeen years of sedinery. i watched the twins being drafted into nhl as raw hockey players, to leading the team to stanley cup finals
