day 1926 – random gift

sometimes the perks of being an instructor is helping students not expecting anything in return. anything that involves writing reference letters, signing volunteer forms, filling in evaluations and even answering supervisor phone calls. once in a while there’ll be the odd thank you gifts. today is one of those days where i received a cadillac gift card from a parent as if it was my birthday. i wish to continue to help in any way possible not because of these thank yous, but because i can

day 1739 – family cake

four of four dinners and birthday cakes in my stomach. saved the best for the last –  a family singaporean dinner and tiramisu mousse cake. no matter how many years young, i’ll always be the little girl they brought up to be. i hope i can make them proud of who i am and who i’ll never stop working towards to become. i know whatever i choose to do, i’ll have their full support. i’m so grateful to have wonderful family, friends and teammates sharing this memorable milestone with me. simple kindness like such makes me happy and makes me smile. it’s been one heck of a week full of celebrations that shows who the real friends really are. i’ll give the eating a rest and get back on the health wagon

day 1738 – birthday game

squirtle squad planned a birthday celly at boston pizza after playing a game of hockey. its really funny the team went above and beyond and used their creativity to customize my squirtle ice cream cake. this is a supportive bunch that’s helped me in my game of hockey, only wanting to make me get better while having fun. this is my second full game playing at defense and i think i’m already getting more comfortable than the first. i’ll watch the game footage when it becomes available and try to pick up things i can do differently to improve my backend game. i think i made the cut for a spot on defense

day 1737 – birthday week

second of my birthday celebration comes with my hamber circle. i don’t usually have birthday parties or any dramatic birthday celebrations, but this one is a bigger one for me. dining at zakkushi and. i’m caught off guard when all of the sudden the lights shut off and music started playing. all the attention turned to me when the waiter brings out a small cake with candle and sparklers. i’m blessed to have grown up with this group. i hope these never change between us no matter how old we grow

day 1736 – appas and dongsaeng

and so the birthday celebration begins. taken out to lunch by colleague for shared birthday meal with an appa. the two appas and two dongsaengs gotten close because we’re late eating buddies. the four of us going all the way out to mr black for long lunch; i’ll probably end up working through tomorrow’s lunch. their menu features much fried katsu of all meats, but going out of my norm is acceptable once in a while. the decor was nice and food was decent, but kind of pricey if everything was regular priced. it was quite evident that traffic wasn’t very high at all

day 1706 – joey’s night

first workout of april in the books; despite not feeling great, i got it started again. at night, the tong family went out to joey’s for an early celebration of my brother’s birthday. it was a tough toss up between the farmers market chicken salad and steak frites. in the end i ordered the steak frites which had the smaller version of prime sirloin, greens and joey’ssignature signature skinny fries. it was a pricey meal, but sharing a birthday is always a special occasion. i spent a lot of time with my family this weekend and that’s what long weekend is all about – rest and family time

day 1688 – cupcake surpriseĀ

cupcake and bubble tea for a surprise pre-birthday celebration. a simple way to show appreciation for a long time teammate, and a friend above all. this team has stuck together for so many years, even i forget how many seasons we have been throwing and dodging together. there’s something special about this team that’s not letting me walk away from vdl entirely. in any case, this could be a reunion tour for some of us so cherish it while we can
