day 1634 – coachella 

wasn’t intending on coaching this one but here i am early saturday morning. nine straight hours of taekwondo isn’t what i called for but at least i got to fit a hockey game in to close off the night. i was mad at myself for missing the net on the one timer off a nice feed. it was a good game overall and what matters is i’m having fun and hand is feeling just fine. i’ve never bounced off a guy to the point where i was knocked momentarily off the ice. this body will be very tired tomorrow after being physically tired for nineteen hours

day 1322 – transformation 

this is not a throwback thursday, but a random photo sifu sent me today and i thought it was funny but fitting. to a raw competitor of six years ago, when i also sparred at bc champ. i can’t keep track of how many competitions i have been to since then; it’s probably a good sign when i don’t. i miss the good old days when i had coaches to turn to, but now i, myself, have taken on that role and can only rely. on myself. still trying to grow into someone i could rely on. it’s a special day for lomo, but no time to celebrate

day 1291 – official rings

being slotted to judge the official blackbelt poomsae ring is what i wanted, but i wasn’t prepared to officiate the blackbelt sparring ring. needing to rotate as centre referee and corner judges in that ring is very nerve wrecking. judging and scoring for hours makes my eyes very tired and shoulders very stiff. it’s a surprise when the president of taekwondo bc came over to chat with me, knows me by my name and said he’s happy to field any questions i may have

day 715 – collector’s den

so glad to get through yet another humpday. today calls for rest day because my body is too banged up and needs to rest in order to make it through to demo day. a little cleanup of my bedroom is important. as i was doing a little cleaning through my drawers, i found a stack of competitor and coaching passes that i have amassed over the years. it’s somewhat fulfilling that i have quietly racked up quite a collection of passes

day 582 – suit up

i am still feeling the soreness of after effects of exercises earlier this week. resting my overused muscles and taking it as easy as i could with lots of stretching and pipe rolling. i can’t really do much with a sore posterior so let’s hope tomorrow’s lone practice will do wonders and get me ready for provincials. in the meantime. i am trying on my poomsae uniform and still debating if i want to pull it out for this weekend
