day 2460 – ghetto lift

we couldn’t sprint on the fields with the rain coming down, so we opted to do our first group lifting session in my ghetto garage gym. i only had fifty seven kilos to work with; i feel bad that it’s not enough for the guys to get what they need. i guess it’s enough for their first day back on lifting. we did some deadlifts, overhead press, rows, curls and even back squats with ghetto human rack. i’m going to be sore from all the curls i’ve missed in last decade or more

day 2450 – shoulder stability

i was off olympic lifting for more than week and i feel i’ve forgotten the tech and timing. private session had me stick with really light weights and concentrate much more on shoulder stability within pain free range. the high volume snatches of triples in power, half and full positions gasses me out real quick. the cleans surprised both coach and i; he let me work up to eighty percent. finished the session off with some heavy back squats and then i was off to my routine sprints. i appreciate just being back on the platform – just me and the barbell

day 2444 – diy squat rack

staying off olympic lifting to give my shin and shoulders a break doesn’t mean i will stop completely. i had to think outside the box to create my own squat rack so i could back squat. kept the workout short and sweet and did a quick five by five squat session. i put on all the weights i borrowed; it wasn’t heavy, but it was a decent amount where i could get a workout out of it as part of some maintenance work. the recycle bin lid had a dent, but it’s worth it

day 2423 – ramen eggs

it’s definitely weird to be staying in on a saturday afternoon instead of being at the dojo teaching. since there’s no teaching, i went to an apex session after much debate and hesitation due to covid-19. i had a really good session snatching up to forty kilos, clean and jerking fifty kilos and squatted a plate. i’m so happy to be out of the confined space and move my rotting body. i went home for lunch and made my first the six-minute egg. it turned out really well and made my noodles tasted extra delicious

day 2374 – squat days

skipping the paused squats and added a little bit of weight to the old fashioned back squats. it was deloaded week so kept the weights in check and didn’t stretch myself too far. i also did some lighter cleans for feelers and they felt doable. i hope return to apex this week and start off feeling more fresh. it being the first of february sure seems like some resolutioners dropped off because the gym is slowly becoming less packed

day 2230 – squatting game

i laid off my clean and squat workout regime ever since i had to prepare for my test, so i thought i’d take whatever i could muster. i started with cleans but it didn’t feel strong with my sore hip flexors felt sore, i decided to cut it short and be spontaneous with the weights. i did back squats for doubles all the way up to one forty five – where i thought i’d stop. spontaneous and curious, i kept going for singles and increased it by 2.5 pounds as i felt okay. had there been a spotter, i would’ve gone for a second rep

day 2183 – smash nash

my friend joined me for workout because she wanted to check out this location. she also wanted to do what i do because she wanted my hops; that in itself is a big compliment. i needed to get back on track with my strength lifts and stay consistent. my cleans felt better than last time just by staying concentrated the moment the bar leaves the ground to the time my shoulders catch it. my squats felt good and stepped it up by five pounds as my program was written up. i recorded both those lifts so i could get them reviewed by my coach
