day 1967 – yankee swap

another year pass by and it comes time for our design christmas lunch and yankee swap in the boardroom. lunch was served with a combination of pasta, salad, cake and sparkling juice. we work hard all year round so it’s good to end the year off by getting the whole department together where we don’t talk about work issues. i got to know a few design people a little better over the last little while. i took home a gift very suitable for me – an organic back wrap microwaveable for both cold and heat aromatherapy. now this is a ticket to continue to go wild with my sports and activities

day 1964 – after party shenanigans

the design team carried the christmas party tradition of hosting the after party. just like every year, this is where the real party begins and wild things happen. one of the few occasions i would let loose and be downing vodka, makgeolli and soju. i had a few rounds and was somehow involved in wrestling activities. the drunken people were hilarious and made many lasting scenes. it was a really fun night chilling and drinking with this group. it wasn’t until 3am that i returned back to my own room. so many good memories but whatever happens in harrison stays in harrison

day 1801 – carnival time

work was pretty much a write off since many of us chipped in to help setup the annual summer party. this year’s theme is carnival and thankfully there were no clowns present. the games can get intense with a bunch of adults reliving their long lost childhood in a games of human foosball, bungee run and of course tug-of-war. i’m pretty dangerous at human foosball; there were several instances of close calls where i almost kicked someone in the head. fun bbq in scorching hot weather just like last year, i’m sure i went home a shade darker

day 1649 – poutinery

my once in a year poutine fulfilled at fishstick cypress bonder. basically the only time i ever have a legitimate reason to eat poutine because of the things served there, it’s the best bang for your buck. to be fair, the output spent skiing likely cancels out the amount this bowl contains. the weather in the morning was wet and foggy when we were up at the skychair, but the skies cleared up as the afternoon rolled around. we went at a moderately fast pace when everyone had relatively good skill level. my best guess is we went through over dozen runs and by the end my legs were pretty tired. the wipeout near the end was a pretty big jolt to my neck and back

huffs and bluffs

i can finally check off the top item on my hike wishlist after completing the eagle bluffs. year after year, we go on hikes together and i’m very appreciative we can continue to keep the tradition every summer. we started at the base with a group that deemed themselves as experienced hikers that’s been going all summer long. we humbly said this was our first one of the summer, and that’s no lie. not long into the hike, we left them in the dust. along the way up we stopped at a cabin lake where many people took a dip. at the very top of it all was a beautiful vantage point where we stopped to take photos, eat snacks and rest. just as we were getting up for our return trip, we saw the same group of hikers who dumbfoundedly realized they were massively lapped. we’re not experienced hikers, but we’re speedy; took us roughly four hours to complete the round trip. i still go many hikes on my wishlist and hoping i can cross off a few more next summer

day 1494 – eagles bluffing

speeding through eagle bluffs and shaving an hour off the average hiker time – not bad for the first hike of this summer. the first twenty minutes was the hardest, but having gotten past that is a chance to stand on this rock to look out from a vantage point. it’s good to get out to keep our annual outdoor adventure alive. the hike was good, the view was great, the legs are satisfyingly tired but still feeling unjustified. the damage of what’s said can’t be undone. it’s not the first time upsetting things have been said, but every time the disappointment hurts just as much

day 1441 – autowest

i brought my german toy into annual maintenance for oil change. upon sitting down with the service advisor, he advised a few more parts to be upgraded or will soon need to be replaced, each item ranging from a couple hundred bucks to seven hundred. i’ll wait on those and in the meantime consult other technicians for professional opinion before making any decisions
