day 2031 – pacman model

using sketchup at work all day almost everyday can be tiring on the eyes, but i enjoy it. was in the midst of building a lamp for my kits collection model room and accidentally built a pacman and pokeball instead. it’s a little nerve wracking that the marketing brochures are relying on my renders, but i’ve been chucking along the models and seem to have things under control. i can’t wait to have my first renders be on these brochures

day 1291 – official rings

being slotted to judge the official blackbelt poomsae ring is what i wanted, but i wasn’t prepared to officiate the blackbelt sparring ring. needing to rotate as centre referee and corner judges in that ring is very nerve wrecking. judging and scoring for hours makes my eyes very tired and shoulders very stiff. it’s a surprise when the president of taekwondo bc came over to chat with me, knows me by my name and said he’s happy to field any questions i may have

day 1172 – referee debut

going to master cup with with the identity of a referee instead of a competitor or coach. first time officiating provincial sparring matches and official blackbelt poomsae divisions; definitely an eye opener. crazy long day with ten straight hours of taekwondo today. i definitely enjoyed judging the official blackbelt as opposed to being centre referee for sparring. i needed tying tie tutorials first thing in the morning as i haven’t worn a tie since hong kong elementary school days

day 1081 – taekwondo loaded

after an eight hour shift of teaching was followed by a three hour long demo rehearsal. it’s final rehearsal for tomorrow’s walk with the dragon event. everything had to spotless before we could leave the dojo tonight as we wanted this to be a good show. i am tired but it’s a good kind of tired. it was stuffy inside, but a bubble tea delivery from a student made it a difference. all i want to do is go home, pass out and be up doing all over again in seven hours

day 884 – fresh start

image

starting the new year skiing down the powders of cypress. we were one of those eager skiers who beat others up the mountain before the morning rush and out-ski the afternoon skiiers to avoid the evening traffic. i must have done minimum ten runs up and down the mountain before it was all said and done; not bad for my first skiing excursion of the season. my legs are certainly feeling tired after a full day of exertion. had some wipeouts when i unknowingly went on some black diamond runs. the weather was gorgeous, the snow conditions were great, couldn’t have asked for a better way to kickstart a 2016 full of promises

day 882 – sedentary

image

not quite sure what i did to my calf, but one was hurting so much i could barely walk down the stairs. stayed home all day and barely had any activity, my fitbit probably thought i was dead. at last i couldn’t take it anymore and had to go out to the gym because i felt trapped and uninspired. since i wasn’t very mobile, the decision probably didn’t make sense to many, but it did for me. i felt both my brain and my body were rotting at home and needed the boost – surely it must be signs of gym withdrawal

day 484 – the trio

image

flashback to way back to the first time the three of us teamed up for nationals 2013, when we still had old school mats. those evil mats that sprained my knee the night before competition and i was competing in agony. we came together as a team in an unexpected way and i am glad we did. those were the good times and I miss the bonding, training and slacking that took place from sunrise to sunset. still waiting for the day we could compete as a team once again
