day 2504 – after class fronts

this week covers one of the move i really want – cart front. i was tired from the heavy squats earlier in the morning, but i really wanted to keep practicing after class. the coach came up to watch, but was displeased with what he saw and how i was drilling it. i felt bad because i let him down; he had every right to be angry. he grilled me until i could do it with the proper technique he wanted and sometimes being pushed hard is what makes me dig deeper. i really do appreciate that he spent time after hours helping me out with a move i really wanted. he’s also the one that doesn’t give a crap about my self confidence. i know i can handle it, but it’s also demoralizing

day 2442 – training accountability

one thing that’s really worked during this quarantine grind is we keep each other accountable. both of us felt sore and tired, but we kept up with the training because we knew we needed to push through for the whole ride. we trained, but trained smart and adjusted to only doing things our bodies could handle. for me, it was focused on aerials, websters and back handsprings. it’s good that my webster is back on track and felt good after a few off days. i’ve also committed to do a better job at stretching to get my flexibility back

day 2392 – airtracking

getting comfortable with tumbling on the airtrack is a good sign. steadily improving on the connection some sort of backward variation out of a cartwheel. right now it’s looking a lot like backtuck, but the goal is both a flash kick and a back handspring as well. i think a different setup onto a matted floor surface may better utilize the airtrack. i’m pushing for it and looking forward to the day i can comfortably do it on the floor

day 2387 – raiz-ing

in class working on raiz this week and i feel like it’s a move i can have. after class time, i worked on some cartwheel back and i finally leveled up and started from airtrack into blue. i think i crossed the bridge by being able to do it on my own and get around to my feet. my backside 900 is also coming together and feeling much better than weeks ago. i think i’ll try to throw it into a combo next time. it’d be nice to eventually put all four moves together

day 2378 – winger dinner

got some wednesday wings after some air track training. though i didn’t make it into distinct back handsprings or flash, i made progress by just getting around on my own. i hit my head on the edge once or twice but i just have to keep doing it until it clicks. i’m pretty hard on myself for not getting the tumbling, but i know it’s a must in order for me to continue. i hope very soon it will look like what i actually want to do – the cartwheel flash or cartwheel back handspring. finished off the night having talks about taekwondo, competition, future school, side gigs, and stocks

day 2346 – plex

had second thought about continuing with the adventure plex plan because my ankle flared up after hockey last night. the ganglion-like lump appeared again even though nothing particular happened during the game. on top of front tucks, i can now do back tucks and back handsprings on the trampoline and airtrack. hopefully next time i come back i’ll also be able to do front handsprings, websters and flash kicks

day 2112 – adventure plex

our gstrings midseason bonder became a season end bonder. the trampoline is a different beast because it gives so much more height and has so much recoil. it definitely took some time adjusting and controlling the front flips and back flips. we also tried the ninja courses, rock climbing walls, dodgeball and free run area. i stayed away from bubble soccer and only did back flips there. we were all so pooped when our two hours were up. i want to come back for more flips, and hopefully next time my ankles will be okay to let me try things like roundoff back flip

day 2004 – roundoff game

a few weeks ago, my roundoff didn’t look remotely like a roundoff. i made up my mind that i wanted to change that so i worked on it every class, it’s really come a long way since. deep down, i ultimately wanted the roundoff backtuck but i didn’t want to press for it and waited for my coaches to have confidence in me first cause clearly i didn’t. it was offered today and i’m very happy i chose to go for the roundoff backtuck at the end of today’s session. i went home really feeling really satisfied knowing that i’ve taken a big step towards attaining what i’ve always wanted

day 2000 – flip flops

it was one of those few flip sessions where my flips felt pretty strong. signs of improvement in my back tuck where i landed some solid ones both spotted and unspotted. cart front off the air track felt pretty good; good enough i even gave front twist a few tries. randomly revisited websters and for the first time, landed on my feet in the red. i think i have what it takes to land them, but i do know it’s a lack of confidence, which was also pointed out. i’m really aiming to hit something in january. there’s a few things on the top of my list: roundoff back tuck, gainer, moon kick, flash kick, and websters are amongst my top
