day 2524 – courtesy car

my car’s exhaust pipe has been really loud and rattly the last week. i had to make an appointment with autowest to get that looked at before the statutory holiday. luckily sonic is still under warranty so the loaner car and diagnostic check is covered. unfortunately, i have to pay for the overpriced gas fuel the dealership charges. i get to keep this x2 until after canada day

day 2523 – nothingness

i had a super frustrating training session at tricking and left the gym crying. i’ve been going at cart fronts and btwists for some time but there’s next to no progress to show for. the coach would point out that i’m doing things wrong, but no matter what i do, i can’t seem to do what the coach is telling me do so he’s also given up on me. as much as i want to slow down and work on the technique, i don’t know how it feels like to be right. i feel so hopeless that part of me thinks i should give up on it because i’ll never get it. i’m told to take a break and work on something else, but that’s happened for all my moves, and as it stands i’ve accomplished nothing

day 2522 – catan-ing

it was important i pushed out some work today because all the scheduling needed to be set for next weekend. after hashing out the major components, i was in my backyard getting two tans going – catan and suntan. i felt bad that i was multitasking during the game early parts of the game, but it was not fun for me at the beginning. i trailed right from the get go, but somehow waited it out and caught up at fourteen points. too bad everyone gave up on the game because i feel like i could’ve pulled out the victory

day 2521 – term one

post covid term one classes come to an end this weekend. it’s been really fun teaching these students in a smaller group setting. i prefer these over the large ones killarney has been accustomed to. through the past six weeks, i’ve gotten to know these kids on a more personal level, and a few of them have revealed more of their inner self. i’m looking forward to further connecting with them in the next terms to come

day 2520 – farmer’s tan

fridays has all my weakest lifts simply because it’s all upper body. the usual consists of bench press, curls, skullcrushers and delt raise. bench press has been making headway in the recent weeks. i’m consistently using the green plates as my working set and hit the century mark with a spotter. i’m glad my workout partner pushed me to do weights i wouldn’t have otherwise tried. the last set of bench press was a killer drop set to finish off my arms. just as i’m about to curl, my friend joked around and i’m reminded of my horrible farmer’s tan

day 2519 – cup marks

to help my knee heal in every way possible, i’m constantly using the suction cups and electrolysis stimulation. though i don’t do as much strengthening exercises, stretches and conditioning as i should, i still try to whenever possible. sitting out has never been easy for me and it’ll always be something i won’t take lightly, so i will take every step i can to ease my pain and rehab process. the biggest drawback is these suction cups leave a large bruise when you least expect it

day 2518 – box squats

i knew going in, that today’s lift was going to be difficult no matter what i do. i couldn’t do conventional squats without a proper working knee so modified it to box squats. box squatting an empty would be a win. it felt comfortable after a couple of warm up sets so started adding a few weights which soon became the green plates. pretty happy that the knee is progressing to the point where i could load some weight and bend as low as parallel

day 2517 – wasabi aioli poke

it hasn’t been warm all season. now that the weather is starting to get hotter, it calls for poke cravings to be satisfied. the combination of fresh ingredients mixed together with sashimi is a refreshing and healthy way to replenish after a workout. i miss buying ingredients and making my own poke at home. sometimes i forget how easy it is to put a poke bowl together

day 2516 – zoom meeting

i was just happy to be back training and almost forgot about my taekwondo zoom meeting in the evening. deadlifts in the morning garage session felt heavy, but one eighty five still felt minimally manageable. my knee is still in a great discomfort so being able to do any movement is already a win. i wonder if there’s still hope of making my two plate one rep max goal next week to salvage a completely disappointing june. i had to be very cautious with how my body felt at tricking, but being able to do any made me feel better and i have no regrets

day 2515 – father’s day lunch

the first time dining out with the family in months because celebrating father’s day trumps covid. just cherishing the times we get to spend together as a family because it’s really become a rarity. we went to jin jiang near royal oak for a shanghainese lunch. we mainly ordered appetizers and laid off on the heavy carbs of noodles and rice. i’m not a fan of their jellyfish head, but the the xiao long bao and egg white dish was delicious
